Sky Bet CEO sticks his head into parliamentary lion’s den

The CEO of UK-licensed online gambling operator Sky Betting & Gaming stuck his head into a parliamentary lion’s den on Tuesday to defend the betting industry’s right to impose customer account restrictions.

Tuesday saw the All-Party Betting & Gaming Group (APBGG) hold its latest seminar to discuss all the things gambling operators do wrong. Tuesday’s seminar, held at the House of Lords, was rhetorically titled “Are Bookmakers Unfairly Closing Customer Accounts?’ (Seems the original title ‘Are Bookmakers Evil?’ was deemed insufficiently objective.)

The seminar heard from three speakers; Sky Bet CEO Richard Flint, Racing Post editor Bruce Millington, and Simon Rowlands, chair of the Horserace Bettors Forum (HBF), which was established three years ago to advocate for winning punters whose accounts had either been closed or subjected to severe wagering limits.

Flint (pictured) came armed with statistics that showed 97% of Sky Bet’s 1m+ horseracing punters had no restrictions on their account, while 2% had potential winnings capped at £1k for major races, and an elite/unfortunate 1% whose winnings were capped at £100.

Wichita illegal gambling sting ends; Brandon Steven cleared of any involvement

An illegal gambling sting in Wichita that somehow included the businessman and high stakes poker lover Brandon Steven has ended with two people pleading guilty to various charges, four more people ready to take a swing, and Steven given the all clear.

An FBI investigation.

It sounds sexy, right?

I guess it all depends on the soul of the song. Back in February 2017, I covered the Wichita Eagle’s ink that the businessman, and high stakes poker lover, Brandon Steven was part of an FBI investigation. A year on, I can close this one down, and it’s not very sexy at all.

Gaming technology provider GAN has finally revealed the identity of its new European-facing real-money online gambling client.

On Tuesday, GAN announced that its heretofore secret ‘Overseas Internet Casino’ partner was none other than the Chickasaw Nation, the Oklahoma tribe that is the biggest multi-property US client of GAN’s Simulated Gaming free-play social casino product.

GAN had been teasing the identity of its overseas client for over a year, but the company says it can now reveal that the tribe’s WinStar.com site launched late last year and is now available in an unspecified number of regulated European markets.

The Chickasaw Nation operates over 20 gaming venues in the state of Oklahoma, and WinStar is the Chickasaw’s primary gaming brand, adorning the tribe’s flagship WinStar World Casino and Resort in Thackerville.

FanDuel founders unveil new Flick social streaming platform

The former CEO of daily fantasy sports operator FanDuel has shed new light on his new eSports venture.

This week witnessed the birth of Flick, an Edinburgh-based company backed by FanDuel co-founders Nigel Eccles and Rob Jones. Flick aims to challenge live-streaming mainstays like Twitch by giving online gamers “an entirely new way of sharing their gaming experience with their friends.”

Flick’s new “social streaming platform” isn’t much more than a gleam in Eccles’ eye at the moment, but the company says it will be “moving quickly on concepts and working with gamers to refine ideas that work for them.”

Jones issued a statement saying FanDuel’s success demonstrated that he and Eccles work well together and have “the capability to build a global business here in Scotland.” Flick plans to “leverage Scotland’s deep expertise in video game development” to ensure the success of the new venture.

SIS to launch new greyhound channel

Tuesday 23rd January 2018 – SIS, a trusted supplier of betting products to retail and online operators, has announced the launch of a dedicated new greyhound channel, available in March.

The channel will incorporate SIS’s exclusive greyhound rights from 8 British tracks and 3 Irish tracks, as well as quality virtual greyhound racing, providing a betting event every 3 minutes throughout the day.

Operators will have access to a market leading 42 meetings a week via the new channel, and the majority will be broadcast during prime-time afternoon and early evening slots, which means that the channel offers more live races at peak times, when customers want them, compared to alternative services on offer.

A key feature of the new SIS Greyhound Channel will be the quality of the live pictures, as SIS will be broadcasting the greyhound racing with three camera angles vs current live pictures which feature one camera angle. This will greatly improve the viewer’s racing experience. The live pictures will be complemented with quality virtual racing in between live races, to ensure continuous short form betting opportunities.

Play’n GO enter Czech Republic with Tipsport deal

23 January, 2018 – Award-winning slots specialist, Play’n GO, has signed an agreement with Tipsport which sees its award-winning mobile and desktop games added to the Czech sportsbook’s online offering.

Tipsport can now offer its players in the newly-regulated market Play’n GO’s licensed, multi-channel games, soon to include MultiFruit81 and Sweet27, both bespoke for the territory.

The deal went live in late 2017, and sees Play’n GO also provide its Game Account Toolkit (GAT). The unique platform acts as a bridge to operators’ existing platforms, allowing for easier third-party integration and new content. Significantly, it negates the risk of disbanding large, legacy systems.

Johan Törnqvist, CEO at Play’n GO, said: “We’re pleased with the start we’ve made with Tipsport and the integration of our unique GAT platform. Its ability to handle the heavy load of data processing, as well as other tools key to commercial success, provides the foundation which all major operators can benefit from.

Hungary’s gaming monopoly growing reliant on sports betting

Hungary’s state-owned gambling monopoly is increasingly reliant on sports betting and online channels for the bulk of its revenue.

This week, local media reported that the Hungarian government-controlled Szerencsejáték Zrt betting monopoly reported that its full-year 2017 sales are expected to come in around HUF462b (US$1.83b), roughly 10% higher than 2016’s revenue mark.

Sports betting’s share of overall Szerencsejáték sales increased one percentage point to 45% last year, thanks in part to the growing popularity of live betting via the operator’s new Tippmix Radar mobile app.

Szerencsejáték intends to capitalize on live betting’s appeal by adding over 50 new betting markets, in particular on the upcoming 2018 Winter Olympics in Seoul. This year will also see live betting become available 24 hours a day for the first time.

Wynn hits jackpot in Q4 on strong Macau revenue

Casino magnate Steve Wynn continued to hit a gold mine in Macau after his gambling facilities in the former Portuguese enclave helped Wynn Resorts Ltd. triple its profit in the fourth quarter of 2017.

In a regulatory filing on Monday, Wynn announced that its net revenues jumped 29.9 percent to $1.69 billion in the last three months of 2017 compared to $1.30 billion recorded in the same period in 2016.

Shares of Wynn Resorts and other casino giants such as Las Vegas Sands (LVS) rallied after the announcement, hitting multi-year highs.

The casino operator attributed the better-than-expected results to the performance of Wynn Macau and Wynn Palace, which partially offset the lackluster performance of Wynn’s Las Vegas operations.
