Powerball, Lotto, Easy 5 jackpots all rising for Wednesday

The Louisiana Lottery Corp. says nobody won the top prizes in three big weekend drawings. That means jackpots are going up for Powerball, Lotto and Easy 5. Wednesday’s estimated jackpots are $80 million for the Powerball, $575,000 for Lotto and $220,000 for Easy 5. The lottery corporation says two Powerball tickets sold in Louisiana match four numbers and the Powerball for a value of $10,000 each.

Macau Gaming Revenue Declines 39% in April

Macau casinos recorded its 11th consecutive revenue drop in April—a 38.8% year-on-year revenue decline.

According to data released by the Macau government on Monday, gambling revenue fell to MOP 19.167b ($2.40 billion) in April, from MOP 31.318b a year earlier.

While Macau’s revenues remain close to six times that of Las Vegas, the slowdown is visible as China’s crackdown on corruption continued to hit business in the world’s casino capital.

An article published in the Asia Pacific Journal of Marketing and Logistics titled, Macau Gambling Industry: Current Challenges and Opportunities Next Decade said that Macau’s VIP gaming industry can be boosted by Central Government’s decision to reduce the commercial banks’ reserve requirements.

Chelsea Canter To Their Fifth Premier League Title

Chelsea beat Crystal Palace, by a solitary goal at Stamford Bridge, confirming their status as Premier League champions for the fifth time.

The Eden Hazard penalty, that condemned Crystal Palace to defeat, handing Chelsea their fifth Premier League title, summed up the blues season since the turn of the year. At times they have stumbled, but one-nil to the Chelsea has since become a hit record.

There are a number of reasons Chelsea have emerged as champions. Everyone else is rubbish, they have a strong spine, and in Jose Mourinho they have one of the greatest coaches in living memory.

The ‘Special One’ has his critics. Mostly born from his lack of experience playing at the top level, and his often-controversial tongue – but to win eight top-flight league titles, in 13 seasons competing in some of the most difficult leagues in the world, is something else.

Mayweather Beats Pacquiao on Points in ‘Let Down of the Century’

Floyd Mayweather retains his unbeaten run after a unanimous points victory over Manny Pacquiao at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

After Manny Pacquiao lost to Floyd Mayweather he thanked God for his opportunity. Mayweather also thanked God, then as quickly as he dodges punches, he also thanked Hublot and FanDuel.

Boxing is changing.

This fight was billed as the greatest fight of modern times. Two of the greatest fighters the world had ever seen, slugging it out to prove who was the best. Or, was it all about money? The combatants were sharing a purse expected to be in the region of $200m. I contributed to that, and like so many other disgruntled customers, I want it back.

Vanessa Selbst Passes the Bar; Chris Moorman Passes Lisbon Passport Control, and Terrence Chan Passes on The Colossus

Vanessa Selbst has successfully passed the bar exam, Chris Moorman has successfully returned to the UK in one piece after a vibrant stag weekend in Lisbon, and Terrence Chan is going to skip the Colossus in favor of having a good old fashioned fight.

It’s unusual to wake up in the morning and not read how Vanessa Selbst had single handedly taken apart a final table, on her way to one form of glory or another, but that’s what we’ve settled for as she found the time to study for her bar exam.

Selbst graduated from law school in 2012. At that time she was winning enough money at the poker tables to set her up for life. Law or poker? It didn’t matter how many times she flipped that one in the air, it would have always landed on poker.

Several years; millions of dollars, and some exciting trinkets later, Selbst decided it was time to finish the work she had started in 2008. She pushed poker to one side, locked herself in her office, and went to work. That’s why we have only caught glimpses of her par excellence this past year.

US lawmakers propose online horse wagering ban, racing not amused

Two US congressmen have introduced legislation that would eliminate online wagering on horseracing, a move that has racing proponents crying foul.

The bipartisan pair of Senator Tom Udall (D-NM) and Representative Joe Pitts (R-PA) have introduced a pair of bills that would repeal the Interstate Horseracing Act of 1978, which allowed off-track betting and (eventually) online advance deposit wagering. These two channels currently account for around 90% of the $11b wagered annually in the 38 states that allow the practice.

Udall (pictured) says he and Pitts want to end “horseracing’s sweetheart gambling privileges” because of the industry’s inability to eliminate the “chronic abuse of performance-enhancing drugs” by “unscrupulous trainers, owners, veterinarians and other race track officials.” Over 7k horses have died on US racetracks since 2008, an “alarming” statistic that Udall believes is “likely caused by the misuse of permitted medication and abuse of illegal drugs.”

New Mexico’s racing industry has routinely been singled out as one of the country’s more egregious violators of doping rules, as evidence by their high body count. In 2012, a scathing New York Times report reported nine fatalities in 13 days at just one New Mexico track.

Erik Seidel Wins the €100k EPT Monte Carlo Super High Roller

Erik Seidel wins the €100,000 buy-in European Poker Tour Monte Carlo Super High Roller, after beating the young Pole, Dzmitry Urbanovich, in heads up action, to take down the €2m first prize.

Erik Seidel has now won major titles in all four of the world’s premier poker tournaments (European Poker Tour (EPT), World Poker Tour (WPT), World Series of Poker (WSOP) and Aussie Millions) after bagging the title, and the €2m first prize in the €100k EPT Monte Carlo Super High Roller (SHR).

What a way to kick off the largest EPT Festival in history. 71 entries creating a total prize pool of €6,888,420, and all of the very best players on the planet were in attendance. In the end, it came down to two very different poker players. It was a clash of styles, man versus boy, and the evergreen legend versus the future of poker: Erik Seidel versus Dzmitry Urbanovich.

The young Pole wasn’t even born when Seidel starred in that immortalized heads-up confrontation against Johnny Chan, in the 1988 WSOP Main Event. That was Seidel’s first live tournament score. There has been many more since. His latest victory – his third seven figure score – sees him leap frog Dan Colman and Phil Ivey to sit in third in the all-time money charts.

Scott Seiver is the World Number One

Scott Seiver ends Ole Schemion’s record-breaking stay at the top of the Global Poker Index rankings, by becoming the ninth player to top the charts since their inception.

Scott Seiver is the ninth person to be crowned the world’s best live tournament player, after deposing Ole Schemion from the top of the Global Poker Index (GPI) world rankings, after a record-breaking 18 straight weeks at the top.

His ascension came in a week that saw him continue his unerring ability to consistently cash in the selective events that he partakes in, by finishing eighth in the €100,000 buy-in European Poker Tour (EPT) Monte Carlo Super High Roller (SHR). Former, GPI #1 Erik Seidel taking the first prize of over €2m, and Seiver cashed for €261,800.

Seiver described his new title as a ‘huge honor’ and lavished praise on the GPI rankings when he said they ‘always seemed to accurately portray the best players at any time.’ Seiver now looks down at the lot.

Casinos have been a safe bet

Most of the big riches haven’t materialized for the state and its communities from the presence of the four big casinos that voters in Ohio approved in 2009. THE BLADE/JEREMY WADSWORTH Since Ohio’s first legal casino opened in 2012, more than $37 million in tax revenue has flowed from gamblers’ pockets to public treasures in Lucas and Wood counties.
