666Bet operator Metro Play Ltd. ordered into compulsory liquidation

The company behind the UK-facing 666Bet and Metro Play online gambling sites is officially winding down operations.

On Monday, the Alderney Official Gazette posted a notice indicating that Metro Play Ltd., which operated the 666Bet.com and MetroPlay.com online gambling sites, had been placed in compulsory liquidation. An Act given on July 2 by the Court of Alderney ordered Metro Play to be “compulsorily wound up.”

Metro Play Ltd. had its UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) operating license suspended in March following the arrest of 666Bet director Paul Bell as part of a £21m money laundering and VAT fraud investigation. Since then, both Metro Play sites have attempted to refund player balances, but a public statement from the company in May said it needed to raise additional capital in order to make its former players whole.

Late last month, the UKGC said a Metro Play spokesman had informed it that funds would be made available to customers who had requested withdrawals. The UKGC said the spokesman had claimed that “whilst the company that provided administration and marketing services to Metro Play and 666Bet has gone into liquidation, he was not aware of any insolvency action being taken against Metro Play.”

Toronto city council approves Woodbine casino expansion

The Toronto city council has approved the addition of a casino at the Woodbine Racetrack.

The council, in a meeting on Wednesday, voted 25-19 in favor of the expansion of the racetrack, which already features as many as 2,700 slot machines. The council considered the number of jobs that the Woodbine casino would create as well as other benefits from the property. They also paid attention to the negative effects the expansion might have on Toronto and its residents.

Toronto Mayor John Tory commented that the council had voted for the creation of more jobs for residents. Yet the officials said concerns about gambling addicts and people with problem gambling behavior would be paid due attention.

“My support for taking this proposition to the next stage does, however, arise out of a profound determination that I have to see more jobs become available in the northwest corner of the city, an area that has been starved for jobs and opportunity for a long, long time,” said Tory.

SidePlay Entertainment Expands iGaming Distribution in HTML5 via Odobo

Gibraltar, 09 July 2015 – SidePlay Entertainment has selected the Odobo Developer Program for its expansion into the igaming commercial sector.

SidePlay Entertainment has produced over 160 instant win games for lotteries and leading operators around the world. Its success comes from its strong focus on engaging content informed by player feedback and over 12 years of experience. The result is that playing a SidePlay game ushers a player through an immersive storyline that flows from the first click to the ultimate reveal.

SidePlay is a successful studio with its games currently boasting over 50 million plays. Its first release via Odobo is an oceanic adventure featuring pirate ships and an all-powerful Kraken. Players select a ship to destroy; they then unleash the Kraken and win prizes. The game offers great interaction with the plot and although its core is that of an instant win game, the strong theme, characters and two-part storyline come together to deliver a game that is in a different league for its genre. In fact, it is probably one of the most visually dynamic instant games ever made.

Rob Smith, Legal and Business Affairs Manager at Odobo, commented, “SidePlay has a vast array of exciting titles that deliver all the gratification of an instant win game but with a clear focus on entertainment. Release The Kraken is an outstanding example of a studio taking a traditional instant win mechanic and adding another layer of polish and gamification. We’re thrilled that SidePlay are looking at the casino sector and that they have chosen Odobo as the platform for worldwide distribution.”
