DraftKings embraces automated software tools, causes daily fantasy divide

Daily fantasy sports (DFS) operator DraftKings is catching hell for changing its terms of service to accommodate the use of automated software by its high-volume multi-entry players.

On Wednesday, DraftKings’ director of customer experience Jon Aguiar posted news of the change in RotoGrinders, a forum for DFS junkies. Aguiar said that while DraftKings’ policy had been to “disallow automated access or scripting on the site in all cases,” the company had changed its tune following “a long internal discussion.”

Going forward, Aguiar said DraftKings will allow the use of scripts to “automate a short list of time consuming behaviors,” including creating a contest, creating a lineup, editing a lineup, entering a guaranteed contest and withdrawing from a guaranteed contest. There is “no other scripted or automated behavior that will be tolerated” and violators could face penalties “up to and including forfeiture of all winnings/balances on the site.”

Reaction to Aguiar’s post has been mixed. Some players argued that DraftKings was simply recognizing already widespread practices while other players accused DraftKings of essentially grandfathering ‘disallowed’ behavior by its power users – without penalty for previous transgressions – in order to preserve the volume of entry fees flowing through its system, thereby allowing it to continue promoting its ever-ballooning prize pools.

Russia’s Primorye casino zone development picks up the pace

Cambodian casino operator NagaCorp has broken ground on its $369m resort casino project in Russia’s Primorye gaming zone near Vladivostok.

Local news outlets recently carried photos of NagaCorp president Tan Sri Dr Chen Lip Keong presiding over a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Russian casino. NagaCorp chairman Tim McNally subsequently confirmed to GGRAsia that the first of the project’s planned three phases was indeed officially underway.

McNally said the project’s first phase, which the company expects to open “not later than 2018” had a budget of between $150m to $200m. Renowned Las Vegas casino architects Steelman Partners are guiding NagaCorp’s project, which a local Primorye news outlet said was using the working title of Seaside Entertainment Resorts City.

Lawrence Ho’s Primorye project is scheduled to open next month. The Tigre de Cristal property, which is being developed by the Ho-controlled First Gambling Company of the East, plans to open its first phase on Aug. 28 (although the project has a history of missing deadlines).

WSOP Day 2A Round Up: Anand Amar Leads; Chattha, Molson and Hastings Have Stacks

The incumbents of Day 1A and Day 1B huddled together to form Day 2A of the World Series of Poker Main Event. It started with 1,624 players, it ended with 650 remaining, and this is what happened in between.

I think it was Bob Dylan who said that anyone who was not busy being born was busy dying. Well, Day 2A of the $10,000 buy-in World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event was a birth of sorts for one man, and we saw 974 players dreams die at the other end of the scale.

The 470 Day 1A survivors and the 1,154 Day 1B survivors competed for a place in Day 3 of a tournament of Sisyphean proportions. At the end of five levels only 650 remained from the maelstrom that had preceded them.

The birth I spoke about was Anand Amar who finished the day as the chip leader bagging up 603,500 chips. According to the Hendon Mob, Amar has only ever cashed once in his life, and that was for $750 at the WPT500 at the Aria in 2014. It was a performance that made his hairs on the back of his neck stand and salute. Just how far he can go is anybody’s guess.

OSF is one of four arts organizations to receive funding, thanks to the efforts of the Cultural Advocacy Coalition.

OpenBet confirms Singapore Pools deal; ex-staffer sentenced for odds manipulation

Online sports betting technology specialists OpenBet have confirmed their deal to develop a new online sportsbook for Singapore Pools.

Earlier this week, Singapore Pools revealed that it was talking with OpenBet about replacing its existing 10-year-old site, which offers wagering on football and motor racing in addition to lottery games. On Thursday, OpenBet confirmed that it had struck a seven-year deal to provide Singapore Pools with sports betting products and services.

Singapore’s new Remote Gambling Act (RGA) took effect on Feb. 2, outlawing most forms of online gambling and blocking hundreds of unauthorized websites. But local operators who devote a significant portion of their revenue to social causes were allowed to apply for exemptions to the RGA, and both Singapore Pools and the Singapore Turf Club indicated this week that they were seeking such exemptions.

Financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed, but earlier reports had pegged the value at around $10m. It’s also unclear exactly when the new OpenBet-powered site would launch, although the Ministry of Home Affairs had said Singapore Pool’s application for exemption would take up to a year to evaluate.
