PokerStars, Full Tilt players conned by hackers using a new spyware

A new malware has been spotted peaking at PokerStars and Full Tilt players’ cards to skew any chances of a win.

San Diego-based IT security company ESET has found a malware known as Win32/Spy.Odlanor in circulation since at least March 2015 and being used to cheat in online poker.

Odlanor can be unwittingly installed on a computer if the user downloads infected apps or software online. In other cases, the security researchers found the spyware was loaded onto the victim’s system through poker-related programs such as Tournament Shark, Poker Calculator Pro, Smart Buddy, Poker Office, and others.

“We have seen this trojan masquerading as a number of benign installers for various general purpose programs, such as Daemon Tools or uTorrent. In other cases, the spyware is installed through various poker-related programs,” said Robert Lipovsky, senior malware researcher at ESET.

Court rules Borgata casino can fire “Babes” for being fat

Borgata casino can fire its cocktail waitresses for putting on too much weight, a court has ruled.

An appeals court Thursday in New Jersey upheld a lower court 2013 ruling allowing the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa to mandate weight limits for servers known as “Borgata Babes.”

More than 20 women, whose uniform includes tight-fitting corsets, stockings and high heels – filed a lawsuit, arguing it only affected female employees. But a court in 2013 ruled that the policy did not discriminate against one gender, generally because it also applied to male “Babes” and the servers had signed an agreement requiring them to maintain an appearance standard as a condition of employment.

The appeals panel found that the lower court ruled appropriately in dismissing the discrimination claim based only on weight but said complaints from 11 servers who claimed they were sexually harassed after putting on weight due to pregnancy or illness should not have been dismissed.

Amaya confident access to California online poker market will come soon

California may have given up already on passing its online poker legislation this year, but Amaya Gaming is not raising the white flag yet.

Eric Hollreiser, vice president of corporate communications for Amaya, told Financial Post that there’s a “a lot of momentum” during the legislative session, so they are confident that it’s only a matter of time before their efforts pay off.

“Obviously, we’re hoping that it’s sooner rather than later,” Hollreiser said, according to the report.

The Canada-based online gaming company is actively lobbying to enter the U.S. gambling market even though only three states—Nevada, New Jersey, and Delaware—have legalized online gambling to this day.

Macao Gaming Show sees stars … and stripes as American exhibitors sign up

The US gaming industry has always kept a close tab on the Macau and Asian markets, but this year the interest is intensifying with a number of new American exhibitors signing up to MGS 2015. Crossing sectors within the gaming genre, the US contingent adds to the international dimension of the Macao Gaming Show with an estimated 20+ countries likely to be exhibiting on the Venetian floor.

The Macao Gaming Show (MGS) has strengthened its fast expanding exhibitor list with a host of leading gaming companies from the United States signing up for this year’s expo at the Venetian Macao (17-19 November).

Leading US companies from across the gaming, leisure and technology sectors have all decided to step up to the ‘Gateway to Asia’ – each using MGS as their starting point to reach the all-important Macau and Asian marketplace.

The US contingent will be travelling to this year’s Macao Gaming Show from a number of different states in America including Connecticut, Illinois, Kentucky and of course, Nevada – covering all aspects of gaming from machine manufacturers to testing labs, from casino fixtures to payment solution companies.

Gamesman take Target 25k Stateside at G2E

London, September 2015: Gamesman, the international gaming equipment, components and systems manufacturer, part of Esterline Corporation, will  be using its presence at G2E to bring its Target 25k fundraising activities ‘Stateside’. Launched at February’s ICE exhibition in London, Target 25k is a Gamesman campaign to raise £25,000 (US$39,000) in order to fund research into Mesothelioma, an aggressive form of lung cancer which the company’s Technical Director James Cove is receiving treatment for.  The US fundraising event comprises  a Charity Poker Tournament to be held on Sunday September 27th at Green Valley Ranch, starting at 6pm.

Gamesman Sales Manager Martin Rigby explained “Mesothelioma is a form of lung cancer caused by exposure to asbestos and is incurable, and at the age of just 43 it came as a huge shock, not just for James and his immediate family but also for his friends and colleagues, many of whom have known him since Gamesman was formed in 1996.

“Since his diagnosis James has undergone some particularly invasive surgery in his battle against this terrible disease and is currently well, against all the odds, which is wonderful news.  However, this does not detract from the fact that this is a life-limiting condition, something that James has to live with every day and does so with typical good humour and positivity.

“In order to try and do something to support James in his fight and help raise both awareness and funds, we launched Target 25 at ICE in February.  Our aim is to raise a minimum of £25,000 in the course of one year through various activities in support of two charities that James has chosen, Mesothelioma UK and the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.

Calling the Clock: Somerville Smashes Twitch Record; Antonius and Dreyfus Say no to HUDS, and Much More

Lee Davy sits quietly in the noisiest library in the world bringing you a round-up of the weekly poker news including: Jason Somerville smashing Twitch records, the voice of Heads Up Display dissention, and much more.

The pilgrimage to bring a regulated online poker industry to the United States suffered a setback this week, after it was revealed that promoters and pushers in California had given up the ghost for 2015.

The 2015 legislative session came and went: tribes, online gambling companies and racetracks failed to agree that salt was salt; the California Gambling Control Commission fell apart at the seams, and bills were left to gather dust.

The news will be a blow for PokerStars who sent their wisest angels on a tour of Californian card rooms spreading the gospel. The saints and sages songs will no doubt be forgotten by the time Californian lawmakers take another look at this thing.
