Fire & Ice 2017 Preview – “Twisted Tales” descend upon London’s Troxy on February 8th

The 16th annual Fire & Ice will take place on February 8th in London at the Troxy, home for the past five years to the gambling industry’s biggest and most anticipated party.  Calvinayre.com loves covering this event each year because our senses are constantly stimulated by the activity on stage, around the bars, on the floor and at the VIP tables- it’s an audio and visual delight for our camera and of course, our beloved viewers.

Each year co-hosts Michael Caselli and Jodie Thind of Lyceum Media conjure up an original and sultry theme, both driving the stage acts and costumes of party staff and guests.  2017 brings a “Twisted Tales” theme, think childhood fairy tales but with a Caselli-inspired creative twist.

“Fire & Ice ‘Twisted Tales’ looks at cherished child fairy tales and twists their lessons 180 degrees”, Caselli told exclusively shared with CalvinAyre.com.

He continued, “Initially I thought that would make for a dark and disturbing storyline, but when I got into the tales, I found that they were already dark and twisted. What surprised me was that in reversing the story’s underlying lessons, the stories didn’t get more strange, but more applicable in today’s world. I don’t know if that means that we have done an about-face since the times of Hans Christian Anderson and the Brothers Grimm, but it did take me by surprise and made me wonder what we have all become.

PAGCOR revenue spikes 17% amid war on online gaming

State-run Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) appears to be unscathed by Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte’s war on online gaming, with revenues soaring at 17 percent at the end of 2016.

Quoting PAGCOR chair Andrea Domingo, The Philippine Daily Inquirer reported that PAGCOR posted a solid, PHP55 billion (US$1.11 billion) revenue for 2016 compared to PHP47 billion (US$945.96 million) for 2015.

The strong revenue comes despite the nationwide closure of hundreds of eGames cafes after Duterte assumed office in June.

Domingo attributed PAGCOR’s strong performance to the combined effects of an improving market, as well as newly implemented in-house efficiency measures. She also cited the casino industry’s legal victory against the Philippines’ Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) last year.

Las Vegas Sands: Parisian Macao not cannibalizing other casinos

Casino operator Las Vegas Sands saw profits fall 15% in 2016 despite the Macau market’s rebound in the second half of the year.

Figures released Wednesday show Sands’ revenue rising 7.4% to $3.08b in the final three months of 2016, while adjusted earnings gained 6% to $1.12b and profits rose 9.2% to $509m, although the profit rise was largely attributable to $64m in favorable currency exchange.

For 2016 as a whole, revenue slipped 3.5% to $8.77b, operating income was down 12.2% to $2.5b and profit fell 15% to ‘only’ $1.67b. The company blamed the profit decline on lower revenue, opening expenses for the new Parisian Macao and “non-recurring legal costs,” including paying multiple seven-figure fines to US regulatory agencies and a reported payout of up to $100m to former Sands China CEO Steve Jacobs.

The Sands China operation in Macau continued to drive Sands’ results, reporting Q4 revenue up 12% to $1.66b while profit slipped 8% to $348m. Full year revenue was down 2.5% to $6.7b while profit slumped 16% to $1.22b.
