FMIC: Philippine gaming slump to continue

According to a recent report by First Metro Investment Corp (FMIC), the Philippine gaming market is expected to simultaneously continue its decline with Macau.

FMIC, the investment arm of Metro Bank Group, said in a report that the Philippine gaming industry is “still highly correlated to Macau gaming.”

“Listed Philippine casino and hotel operators have seen their share prices decline by more than 50 percent year-to-date despite consolidated gross gaming revenues in the country increasing by a fifth in 2015,” The Philippine Star quoted FMIC.

Macau casino gaming revenue declined for the 17th straight month in October, despite a boost from the annual Golden Week holiday period, posting 28.4% year-on-year to MOP 20.1b.

Mohegans beat the buzzer to file bid for South Korean casino license

Mohegan Sun leaders have made it just in time to personally file their bid for a casino license in South Korea.

Bobby Soper, chief executive of the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority (MTGA), confirmed to The Day that he personally flew from Connecticut to South Korea on Wednesday, two days before the government’s Friday deadline.

MTGA, also known as Mohegan Sun, signed a prospective deal with the Incheon International Airport Corporation back in April to build and operate a $1.6 billion gateway entertainment city next to the Incheon International Airport, which serves more than 45 million visitors annually.

The $1.6 billion is just a portion of the authority’s $5 billion total investment for the project that is expected to unfold in over 20 years.

Phil Ivey’s second shot: Poker pro to appeal £7.7M Crockford decision

The battle continues for Phil Ivey.

This time, the poker pro has given a fresh hope of recovering the £7.7 million he won playing Punto Banco, a form of baccarat, in London’s Crockford’s casino in 2012.

Ivey won the money by edge sorting—exploiting a defect in the card manufacturing process to identify the face value of cards—that he insisted was a legitimate technique, but a judge ruled in 2014 that his method can be considered cheating.

However, Ivey has recently been allowed to appeal last year’s ruling after a judge ruled that his case “raises an important question of law and has a real prospect of success,” Daily Mail reported. Ivey is set to appear before the Appeal Court on Dec. 10.

New bill paves way for Packer-De Niro casino

A new law has been passed that will expedite the development of actor Robert De Niro’s Caribbean resort and casino.

De Niro, with the help of his Australian billionaire BFF James Packer, plans to build a $250 million Caribbean resort and casino, which includes a five-star boutique hotel, high-end eco-lodge, a marina with jetties for luxury yachts, a casino, and an airport for executive jets. The project will be located at the K Club site and will occupy 391 acres of the undeveloped land in Barbuda Island.

The “Paradise Found” bill, which provides De Niro and Packer with a 25-year tax holiday in exchange for developing the project, was passed by the Antigua and Barbuda legislature on November 18, hours after it was introduced.

The plan, although is expected to bring hundreds of jobs to the area, is facing opposition from some of the locals and lawmakers.

Pa. inmate goes after USA Today for ruining his jailhouse gambling operations

A state court threw out a Pennsylvania man’s lawsuit against a newspaper company, which he claimed “ruined” his jailhouse gambling operations.

In his suit, Alton Brown blamed USA Today’s former publisher and President Larry Kramer for the newspaper’s decision to stop running gambling data, including Las Vegas betting odds, on sporting events, PennLive reported.

Brown, who has a record of assault, robbery and theft convictions, told the court he needed the information “to run his book-making operation in prison,” the news outlet quoted Senior Judge William H. Platt as saying.

The lawsuit was filed in 2013 while Brown was in the state prison at Smithfield, according to PennLive. In it, the 60-year-old accused Kramer of breaching their contract, based on grounds that USA Today stopped printing the gambling odds right after he subscribed to the newspaper.

Leading online and mobile game supplier iSoftBet is pleased to announce that its entire gaming portfolio has successfully achieved full UK Level 3 certification from the UK Gambling Commission.

iSoftBet acquired its UK continuation licence in November 2014, after which it was allotted a 12-month period to bring its gaming suite to level 3 compliance for the UK. The supplier was able to meet the requirements laid out by the UKGC within the deadline, thus allowing the supplier to continue to provide an uninterrupted service to its range of prestigious UK-facing business partners.
