Inspirational ICE helps Gamevy increase value by 900%

LONDON (January 6, 2016) – Gamevy, the online games developer and winner of the 2015 Pitch ICE competition, has increased in value by ten-fold (900%) in less than a year – according to co-founder and Gamevy Marketing Director, Helen Walton.

Helen Walton, co-founder Gamevy

Helen believes that the experience gained at ICE was invaluable.  She explained: “There’s no doubt ICE was a game-changer for us. It was the catalyst that helped us find investment, sign our first two customers and make a major change in our strategy. This last point is key. The conversations we had at ICE helped us to establish a route to market which was slower but also more pragmatic. I would say that the ability to stay open to the new possibilities we came across at ICE has been a key part of our success.

“Although the snappy soundbite might be that winning ICE helped us find investment, that was not actually its true value. Far more important was the change in direction that we undertook as a result of the conversations that opened up. We believe that the business has increased in value by almost ten times since Feb 2015 – a truly staggering growth rate, but one which we expect to see confirmed by an upcoming external valuation.”

GIG strengthens financial position to pursue growth opportunities

The Board of Directors of Gaming Innovation Group Inc. (GIG) has decided to issue 23,000,000 new shares at a price of NOK 1.95 per share. The share issue will be directed towards Swedbank Robur Fonder, one of the largest mutual fund managers in the Nordic region. The transaction will significantly strengthen GIG‘s financial position and enable the Company to step up efforts to pursue strategic growth opportunities.

The issue of 23,000,000 new shares will add total gross proceeds to the Company of approximately NOK 45 million. The pricing of the new shares is based on the volume-weighted average price on 4 January 2016. Following the share issue, Swedbank Robur Fonder will hold 4.38% of the shares in the Company.

Robin Reed, CEO of GIG, said:

“GIG is pleased to announce the investment in the Company by Swedbank Robur. We are delighted to see such a credible and successful player approach us which we see as a testament to the development of Gaming Innovation Group. Last year GIG did not pursue attractive acquisition opportunities because of the need to channel focus and revenues into our rapid growth. We know today that these acquisitions would have been complementary to our strategy and profitable. The Company is now ready to take advantage of such opportunities from an operational perspective and a strengthened balance sheet will allow us to pursue such opportunities rapidly as they arise. Furthermore, as part of the transaction we are getting a substantial and long-term shareholder”.

GPI American Poker Awards Nomination Process Begins; Two New Categories Introduced: Poker Moment and Poker Presenter of The Year

The nomination process for the Global Poker Index American Poker Awards has begun, and there will be two new categories in the field of Best Poker Moment and Best Poker Presenter.

If there is one place I want to be on February 25, 2016, it’s the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.

It’s going to be the most exciting day in poker since I joined this cute little bubble.

It’s going to be Global Poker League (GPL) Draft Day.

Rake Free Poker: TonyBet Poker’s Warren Lush Trying to Stop Poker Becoming Dull

An interview with TonyBet Poker spokesperson Warren Lush on their decision to offer rake free No-Limit Hold’em and Pot-Limit Omaha cash games.

TonyBet Poker broke the mould when they became the first online poker site dedicated to an Open Face Chinese (OFC) product. While rake free cash games aren’t in that same ground-breaking territory, it’s still a bold move in a business that’s as competitive as ever.

I caught up with TonyBet spokesperson, Warren Lush, to ask his view on the recent announcement and their plans for the future.

So Warren, what can we expect from Tonybet in 2016?

Online Pop-u-Lotto set out vision to save the sector from lottery disenchantment

Dan Engel, co-founder of the Pop-u-Lotto online lottery brand, which is scheduled to launch in Brazil in Q1 2016, has accused some of the world’s most famous lotteries of risking player alienation and  lottery fatigue through the creation of games which make winning into nothing more than a pipe dream.

Dan Engel, co-founder of the Pop-u-Lotto™ online lottery brand.

Reserving his ire for the UK’s National Lottery, operated by Camelot, Engel said: “Where’s the concept of ‘fair play’ that the British are renowned for when Camelot increase the number of balls from 49 to 59 and in one ‘foul’ swoop reduce the odds of winning the jackpot from 1 in 14 million to 1 in 45 million?

“There’s a huge risk that players will simply vote with their wallets and purses and find an alternative way to enjoy their leisure spend.  My fear is that initiatives by operators to boost profits is blinkered and may well be to the detriment of the entire lottery industry.   A cursory look at the internet forums quickly identifies disgruntled ex-players bemoaning the fact that it’s just too difficult to win what they refer to as ‘a normal lottery jackpot.’ When the changes were announced, the National Lottery’s official Facebook page was bombarded with complaints from players who insisted they had had enough. When you reduce the chances of winning you also extinguish the excitement.”

Iao Kun Group’s VIP gambling turnover falls three-fifths in 2015

Macau casino junket operator Iao Kun Group Holdings Ltd (IKGH) says its VIP gambling business declined by more than three-fifths in 2015.

IKGH, which has a VIP gambling presence in five Macau casinos, reported rolling chip turnover of $420m in December, a 40% year-on-year decline from the $710m the company reported rolling in December 2014. On the plus side, win rate was 3.28%, well above the 2.7% to 3% theoretical win range.

For the year as a whole, IKGH fared even worse. While the overall Macau market fell 34.3% in 2015, the VIP market was hit much harder (final VIP-mass share stats won’t be published until later this month). As a result, IKGH reported its 2015 turnover falling 61% to $6.42b, for a monthly average of $540m.

Like the overall Macau market, this is the second straight year IKGH has suffered an annual decline. In 2014, IKGH reported turnover falling 3% to $16.6b, about on par with the Macau market’s 2.6% decline that year.

California Assembly committee approves daily fantasy sports legislation

A California Assembly committee has approved a daily fantasy sports bill, the first such forward progress any state has made on the DFS legislative front.

Wednesday saw the California Assembly Committee on Governmental Organization meet to consider Assemblyman Adam Gray’s AB 1437, aka the Internet Fantasy Sports Game Protection Act. The bill was filed in September as a means of regulating, licensing and taxing DFS activity in the Golden State.

Prior to the hearing, Gray filed a number of amendments to his bill, including bans on commingling player funds with operating capital, some mild advertising restrictions, prohibitions on DFS employees playing on other sites and tagging high-volume players with a scarlet letter so fish know when they’re being stalked. But Gray’s bill still hasn’t specified what the state will seek in terms of license fees or taxes.

The proceedings got off to a bad start for Gray, who, as the bill’s sponsor, left his chairman’s seat to take his place in the witness box, only to discover his microphone didn’t work. But that was about the only obstacle Gray faced on Wednesday.

Fanteam: An Interview With CEO Kristoffer Zvickell

Lee Davy grabs a word with the CEO of Europe’s Daily Fantasy Sports outfit Fanteam to talk about his company and the business at large.

When I think of fantasy football, I think of David Baddiel and Frank Skinner. The British comedian’s hosted a TV show on ITV called Fantasy Football League.

That was back in 1994. Things have changed a bit since then. Back then, playing fantasy football was a hobby. Today, it’s a multi-million dollar business.

There is a multitude of quality companies offering a fantasy football service. One of them is Fanteam, and I caught up with their chief executive officer, Kristoffer Zvickell, to pose a few questions about his company, and the Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) business in general.
