The Value of Kirk Cousins Is Tied To Andy Dalton

One of the most interesting subplots of wild card weekend is the monetary value that Kirk Cousins is going to extract from Washington this offseason. He’s defiantly led the Redskins in to the playoffs amidst a crumbling division, and made his team look like a legitimate threat to send the Green Bay Packers home early. So how much money do you think he’ll get for his efforts, win or lose?

The answer: $100 million. Give or take. And I’m not even kidding.

Andy Dalton signed a similar contract worth $96 million over 6 years just last season. Dalton will earn an average salary of $16 million, and has already banked a $12 million signing bonus along with $17 million guaranteed. Whether people believe in him or not, Cincinnati dedicated themselves to his skillset for the long term.

Cincinnati also crafted the contract with their own flexibility in mind. They can essentially dump him after next year without taking a massive hit in what’s called “dead cap space”. This the portion of their salary cap that equates to a sunk cost; one that the team can’t avoid even if the player isn’t on their roster anymore.

Lawmakers invites Fanduel to make Indiana as its home state

Amidst New York and other states making efforts to scare off daily fantasy sports, Indiana is taking an entirely different stance.

Two Hoosier lawmakers Rep. Alan Morrison and Sen. Jon Ford are inviting FanDuel to ditch New York and make Indiana as their new headquarters.

“With the backlash they have received in their home state, we propose FanDuel move their headquarters to Indiana,” according to a press release from the website of Indiana House of Representatives.

Morrison also confirmed with The Indianapolis Star that he is in talks with FanDuel regarding the possible move, which would likely result in a few hundred new jobs for Indiana residents, while Fanduel thanked the state lawmakers for “offering the DFS site a safe haven to provide jobs and stimulate a nascent industry.”

Confused Vantiv seeks clarity over conflict between New York AG, DraftKings

Payment processing company Vantiv—like a child stuck in the middle of warring parents—is turning to the court for some much needed clarity on the controversy surrounding daily fantasy sports operators DraftKings and FanDuel.

The Greater Cincinnati-based company has filed a lawsuit asking the New York state Supreme Court to, essentially, intervene and decide whether it should go ahead with processing payments for DraftKings, the Cincinnati Business Courier reported.

Vantiv has been in charge of processing payments for daily fantasy sports firms operating in New York for years, until November last year, when New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman ordered DraftKings to stopped accepting bets from customers in the state. In his cease and desist orders to DFS operators, Schneiderman gave DraftKings and FanDuel five days to cut ties with an estimated 1.1 million customers the two operators deal with in New York.

According to the Business Courier report, Vantiv asked DraftKings to confirm the AG order, but the daily fantasy sports operator was able to get a temporary order, preventing Vantiv from stopping its payment processing services with DraftKings’ customers.

Women in Poker Who Made Us Sit Up and Take Notice in 2015

You can’t really say that women in poker throughout 2015 offered any one standout, headline-grabbing female performance. There was Jennifer Harman’s “it’s about time” Poker Hall of Fame induction, of course, but that’s more about long-term recognition than anything specific she accomplished this year. Of course, the world’s top female poker players were cashing consistently […]

Biggest Poker Player Wins of 2015

Our biggest poker winners round-up for 2014 was an easy one last year, because that was the year that Daniel Colman went on the most mind-bending run in tournament poker history, without apparently breaking into a sweat. Or a smile. The $22,389,481 he earned in 2014 has only been surpassed by three players in the […]

Playing Poker Professionally: How Hard Has It Become to Make a Living in 2015?

Being a professional poker player has always been a tough way to make a living. Even for profitable players, who find themselves in a small minority, the question must be asked: how much constitutes “a living”? Yes, you’re profitable, but if you’re in the black to the tune of, say, $10,000 per annum, you are […]

Is Poker TV Dying? A Look Back at 2015 to See What We Can Surmise

Is poker TV flatlining? Has the game changed so much in the past decade or so that TV is no longer its most relevant medium? After all, there was a time, briefly, around 2005, when televised poker shows were garnering more viewers than baseball. Of course, no one could have expected this to last, and […]

Poker Pros We Lost in 2015: A Look Back at the Greats Who Left Us

Poker pros come and go: from the game, the profession, and life itself, we know that. But some leave an indelible imprint on the poker community, and this year’s “In Memorium” list certainly fits that bill. In 2015, a handful of notable players played their last hands before taking their seat at the big poker […]
