GVC to sell part of Bwin.party’s Kalixa payment division, keeping Foxy Bingo

Online gambling operator GVC Holdings says it will sell off parts of Bwin.party’s Kalixa payments division while holding on to its Foxy Bingo operation.

In an interview with The Telegraph, GVC CEO Kenneth Alexander said he has already had “very early discussions” with payment processors regarding the sale of some aspects of Kalixa once GVC completes its acquisition of Bwin.party on February 1.

Kalixa began life as Bwin.party’s internal payments division but was spun off into a standalone entity in 2013 so that it could handle payments for third party companies. It’s this third party business that Alexander believes GVC would “probably look at maybe disposing bits of that.”

However, Alexander rejected suggestions that GVC was interested in offloading Bwin.party’s Foxy Bingo operations, which he described as “a cracking business.”

Two 20-year Houston Police veterans accused of online bookmaking

Two former Houston police officers have been linked to an illegal sports betting operation tied to Costa Rica-based online sportsbooks.

On Sunday, the Dallas News revealed that former Houston police sergeants Brian Jordan and Steven Glazman – both 20-year veterans – were relieved of their duties last May after federal authorities raided their homes as part of an illegal betting investigation. Both men have since retired from the force.

The US Attorney’s Office in Planto, Texas named the two officers in forfeiture lawsuits linked to the betting ring, which catered to customers across Texas as well as in at least four other states. The lawsuit claims that the officers, along with a third suspect, Timothy Large, deposited a total of $3.7m into a series of bank accounts in recent years.

Assistant US Attorney Andrew Stover said the ring had been in business since 2010 and utilized “various internet websites hosted in Costa Rica” to handle their wagering business. The lawsuit says Large admitted his involvement to Homeland Security Investigations agents, and that he earned between $200k and $300k per year from bookmaking over the past decade.

Sky Sports planning documentary on eSports betting

Sky Sports is planning a documentary on eSports betting and its producers are promising it won’t be a hatchet job.

On Monday, a filmmaker named Joel Dale began a thread on Reddit in which he asked eSports gamers who had been “seriously affected by gambling” to contact him regarding a documentary his JBD Productions had been commissioned to produce for Sky.

Initial reaction to Dale’s request was skeptical, with players expressing concerns that the finished product would be a sensationalist fearmongering piece. But Dale insisted that he and his unidentified partner were avid players of Counterstrike; Global Offensive and were “not here to destroy what we love.”

Dale said his intention was to tell the story of the “good and bad points of gambling within the gaming industry.” However, he later revealed that he and his partner “have a problem with gambling and want to know if anyone else has experienced this within eSports.” Dale later told PCGamesN.com that he and his partner had spent “five figures” on CS:GO betting using both skins and real money.
