Online Poker in Portugal: Players Urged to Boycott Ring-Fenced Sites

Associação Nacional de Apostadores Online, a group established to protect the interests of online gamblers in Portugal, has urged its members to boycott emerging ring-fenced sites within the new Portuguese market.

Online poker players based in Portugal are facing some tough times ahead.

A month ago, Manuela Bandeira, the Director of Serviço de Regulação e Inspeção de Jogos (SRIJ), and Head of Online Gambling, in Portugal, shocked the online poker community by announcing plans to ring-fence liquidity in the Portuguese market.

It’s a model that doesn’t work.

Poker players could face jail time over card swap cheat

Five poker players thought they could get away with swapping cards at one of the largest casino in the UK.

A Turkish gang raked in £33,600 (€44,663) by cheating at three card poker between April and May 2014 at the Grosvenor Victoria Casino.

The trick worked with two players switching cards to make up a winning hand, as a third schemer acting as a distraction and the fourth as a lookout.

Members of ring Ergun Yasar and Tarik Nergiz pleaded guilty to conspiracy to cheat on the first day of their trial at Old Bailey, while co-defendants, Murat Kolcak, Ozgur Aytekin and Ali Kuyar, admitted the charges.

Macau’s new gaming regulator won’t renew 35 junket operator licenses

Macau’s new casino regulatory chief says 35 junket operators won’t have their licenses renewed after failing to submit accounting data.

On Wednesday, Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) chief Paulo Martins Chan told Radio Macau that 35 junkets had failed to submit the required information by the stated deadline.

Plans to increase oversight of the junket business were announced in September and Chan reiterated this goal as one of his top priorities when he assumed the DICJ’s top job on Dec. 1. Chan told Radio Macau that the ultimate goal was to impose stricter benchmarks for determining junket suitability and financial stability, although he offered no timeline for their implementation.

Chan acknowledged that the junket industry “may have some difficulties” adapting to the new rules but said the changes were essential to the DICJ’s goal of “setting up an honest gambling industry.”
