Online Poker in Sweden Thrives as Eisenhower1 and Isildur1 Dominate in 2015

Online poker in Sweden is alive and kicking as Christian ‘eisenhower1′ Jeppsson and Viktor ‘Isildur1′ Blom dominates the 2015 online action in both cash games and multi-table tournaments.

The ride for online poker players in Sweden, over the past few years, has been tumultuous to say the least.

The environment has been plagued with tax issues. Players have had their homes invaded and goods effectively stolen. But throughout all of that, Swedish online poker remains as tough as dentine.

Online poker forum and ranking site PocketFives has announced Sweden’s Christian ‘eisenhower1′ Jeppsson as the winner of their annual PocketFives Leaderboard (PLB). Jeppsson came from behind in the final two weeks to overtake the Russian Artem ‘veeea’ Vezhenkov to become the eventual champion. Previous incumbents include Calvin Anderson, Griffin Benger and Chris Moorman.

Cambodia government’s casino tax take rises one-third in 2015

Cambodia’s government earned one-third more tax revenue from casino gambling in 2015 than it raised one year earlier.

On Monday, Cambodia’s Finance Ministry announced that it had collected $34.7m in casino taxes in 2015, up 33% from 2014’s total. The gain is a marked departure from 2014’s 12% gain and the 12.5% average annual growth recorded over the past three years.

The ministry’s deputy director-general, Ross Phearun, attributed 2015’s bonanza to improved nationwide tax collection. Pheaurn claimed that the ministry had issued only seven new casino licenses in 2015, only one of which had actually commenced operations last year.

NagaCorp’s flagship NagaWorld property in Phnom Penh accounted for 23% of the government’s casino tax haul. NagaWorld is not only the country’s largest casino, it’s also a far more diversified venue than the small gaming-only casinos that dot the country’s borders with Thailand and Vietnam.

Florida committee okays daily fantasy sports bill; Massachusetts gets an earful

For the second time in as many weeks, a US state legislative committee has approved a daily fantasy sports bill.

On Tuesday, the Florida House of Representatives’ Business and Professions Subcommittee approved HB 707 by a vote of 10-3. The bill, which was introduced by Reps. Matt Gaetz and Ritch Workman, will now move to the Regulatory Affairs Committee for further vetting.

Similar to the DFS bill approved last week by a California Assembly committee, the legislators who voted in favor of HB 707 did so with caveats that they expect the bill to undergo further revisions – particularly in the areas of operator background checks and conditions for license revocation – before it comes up for a vote on the House floor.

The original draft of HB 707 lacked the fees proscribed under a Senate DFS bill that was introduced in November, but HB 707 was amended in committee to impose a $500k initial license fee with annual renewal fees of $100k, identical to the Senate’s SB 832.
