Typhoon Hato scares Macau visitors in August

The impact of Typhoon Hato to the Asia’s premier gaming hub has become clearer as shown in the recent data released by Macau’s Statistics and Census Service.

Macau saw a dip in tourist arrivals in August by 0.6 percent to 2,866,400 in August 2017 as local and foreign visitors avoided the former Portuguese enclave due to what it described as a “catastrophic typhoon.”

In terms of month-to-month comparison, the statistics bureau said that the figures of tourist arrivals were down by 1.8 percent.

Tropical storm Hato dealt Macau only a glancing blow, but it was powerful enough to shut down Asia’s premier gaming hub, flood some integrated resorts, and take at least 10 lives as it pummels its way toward the mainland.

CASEXE summarized the results of its White Label webinar

September 2017, CASEXE held a webinar on topic: “Principles of White Label functioning in online gambling. Advantages and disadvantages for operators”. Roman Oleynichenko, the customer manager of the company, was the main speaker of the webinar.

According to official data, around 80 people attended this online event, a fact that arguably proves vivid user involvement and strong interest of the audience in such turnkey gambling products.

At the end of the webinar, the speaker was asked a number of questions, including the possibility of conducting industry activities in the Russian Federation. Oleynichenko commented that online gambling in Russia had been temporarily prohibited (online betting is an exception, as it is on the list of gambling activities), however, pointed out that entrepreneurs can turn to Curaçao, which is considered to be one of the best gambling offshores.

It is reported that within three weeks the company will be able to become a licensee for the local regulator and the price of the permit varies from 18 to 20 thousand dollars.

Curtis Roach, Clarion Gaming’s Senior Events Producer, responsible for EiG, said: “We know from the delegate research that we conduct after each edition of EiG that 79% of 2016’s registrants attended with the main objective to meet customers, suppliers and industry colleagues in Berlin and 56% to network. Across our gaming brands we are committed to enhancing the customer experience and the EiG App has been developed to make these key functions easier and more straightforward to complete.”

The 2017 App, allows registered delegates to see who’s attending across the spectrum of speakers, sponsors, exhibitors and fellow delegates. The TI7 of Dota 2  has concluded only 6 weeks ago and it’s already time for the next eSports highlight in 2017: The League of Legends World Championship, also known as LoL Worlds. While League of Legend’s publisher Riot Games will most likely not be able to compete with the more than 20 million dollar prize pool of the TI7, they should be able to beat their main competitor in the MOBA business once again when it comes to viewer numbers. The finals of last year’s World Championship were watched by 43 million people peaking at 14.7 million concurrent viewers. That’s even more viewership than the finals of the NBA had that same year. And keep in mind that that’s only the finals – in total, LoL fans from all over the globe watched over 370 million hours of eSports footage over the course of the event. So let’s take a closer look at what’s about to happen at this year’s LoL Worlds, before we dive into the different betting markets for the competition. If you are not familiar with eSports and League of Legends at all, you can take a look at the highlight video of last year’s Worlds below to get a feel of what is going on here.

Roger Ver bets $1M that Bitcoin Cash will not be ‘short-lived’

Bitcoin.com chief executive Roger Ver has issued a $1 million challenge to F2Pool owner Wang Chun, who has claimed at a blockchain conference in Hong Kong that Bitcoin Cash “will be short-lived.”

The two executives were part of a roundtable discussion at the Bitkan-hosted 2017 Shape the Future Blockchain Global Summit, debating on the potentials of Bitcoin Cash versus the original Bitcoin. For his part, Wang said Bitcoin Cash will be abandoned soon, or as early as November, when another hard fork is expected to happen.

“Bitcoin Cash will be short-lived compared with earlier attempts because we will soon have another one coming very soon… after SegWit2X is introduced,” Wang said.

The F2Pool co-owner’s comment caught the ire of Ver, a confessed fan of Bitcoin Cash, prompting him to issue a bet.

WSOPE update: PokerNews are in; Main Event is re-entry

A quick update from the World Series of Poker Europe including PokerNews handling the media, a re-entry Main Event, and more.

I lived in a small village where you was more likely to find a sheep rooting through your bin than a mongrel. Cigarette machines were the most up to date technology. People received wages in cash, and their bedroom closet was the closest thing to a bank.

3,000 people were living in that village.

There are less than a thousand residing in Rozvadov, a village and municipality in the Czech Republic, and in 2016, the World Series of Poker entered into a multi-year agreement with Rozvadov’s King’s Casino to host the World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE).

PokerStars associate Kevin Hart offers a public apology to his wife and two children after becoming enmeshed in a blackmail plot; Dan Bilzerian talks trust fund money and $18m poker sessions

Man, it’s time for Kevin Hart to dust off his library card because hanging around in Las Vegas nightclubs is just not doing it for him.

The actor, comedian, and PokerStars associate had no choice but to release a video on Instagram confessing for making a ‘bad error of judgment’ after the press caught wind of a potential extortion plot over an alleged recording of Hart engaged in sexual activity with a young woman. An FBI investigation is underway.

Sending so many apologies to my wife & kids. I gotta do better and I will. I’m not perfect and… https://t.co/ZnLRZWeO2X

Calling the Clock: Sontheimer the Poker Master; charity, and more

Another round-up of the weekly poker news headlines including the Poker Masters, lots of charitable giving, and much more.

It’s time to sit down behind the Grand Piano of poker and bust out some of the greatest hits of the past week, starting with Poker Central and the Poker Masters.

Was it a success?

After Poker Night in America (PNIA) decided to bust out a second episode of the cringe-worthy King of the Hill, I’m not sure what represents a success these days, but I think we’ll see another season.

Two Big 12 quarterbacks battling on Heisman trophy betting lines

They will not square off against each other until November 4, but you can bet that quarterbacks Baker Mayfield of the Oklahoma Sooners and Mason Rudolph of the Oklahoma State Cowboys are already looking forward to that date when they can prove who is the better player and whose team is superior.

That Oklahoma-Oklahoma State showdown will likely not only determine the Big 12 champion but also could help decide who wins the Heisman Trophy in December between the two current favorites.

Right now, Mayfield appears to be the player to beat at +275 based mainly on his performance in a 31-16 road win over the Ohio State Buckeyes on September 9. The senior threw for a season-high 386 yards and three touchdowns at Ohio State, outplaying counterpart J.T. Barrett of the Buckeyes in a key matchup.

David Group junket opening new VIP room at Galaxy Macau

Casino junket operator David Group continues its emergence from hibernation with plans to open a new VIP gaming room at Galaxy Macau.

On Thursday, Inside Asian Gaming reported that David Group was planning to open a new VIP gaming area on the second floor of the west wing of Galaxy Entertainment Group’s flagship casino property, Galaxy Macau.

The new VIP area, which is scheduled to formally launch at 2:30pm on Tuesday, Sept. 26, will feature 10 gaming tables, six of which will be located in six restricted areas, each for the exclusive use of a single customer.

In January 2015, David Group announced a significant reduction in its Macau footprint, reflecting the dramatic downturn the VIP gambling market endured after Beijing launched its crackdown on corruption. In September of that year, Galaxy Macau converted its former David Group VIP room into a premium mass gaming area.
