Donaco’s online gambling launch getting further and further away

Asian casino operator Donaco International’s plans to launch online gambling operations in Cambodia may not actually happen until well into the new year, according to the company’s chief executive.

The Australian-listed Donaco, which operates the Star Vegas casino in Poipet, Cambodia and the Aristo International Hotel in northern Vietnam, first announced its possession of a Cambodian online gambling license in October 2016.

In August, Donaco used its latest fiscal year earnings report to announce that its online operations would launch in September. Last week, Donaco CEO Joey Lim Keong Yew hinted that the launch date could be pushed back until October.

But in a newly published interview with The Edge Malaysia Weekly, Lim was asked about the October launch date, only to reply that the timeline was “maybe not so soon.” Lim then said it could take “maybe six to seven months to develop the platform and integrate it with our [customer relationship management.”

Pennsylvania casinos have good August as budget talks drag on

Pennsylvania casinos posted a modest revenue gain in August as state legislators continue to dither over potential gambling expansion.

Figures released this week by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) show the state’s 12 casinos earned table game revenue of just under $74.3m in August, a nearly 11% improvement over the same month last year.

Last week, the PGCB reported that August’s slot machine revenue was down 0.4% to $193.2m, putting August’s overall gaming revenue at $267.5m, for a year-on-year increase of 2.5%.

The state’s overall market leader was Parx Casino in Philadelphia, which generated total revenue of just over $48m ($32m slots, $16m tables). That was enough to relegate Las Vegas Sands’ Sands Bethlehem to second place with nearly $45.1m ($25.1m slots, $20m tables).

Scientific Games to acquire NYX Gaming Group for C$775m

US gaming technology giant Scientific Games Corporation has acquired Canadian online gambling technology provider NYX Gaming Group, as the consolidation of the gaming content industry shows no signs of abating anytime soon.

On Wednesday, Sci-Games announced that it had acquired the Toronto-listed NYX at a price of C$2.40 per share, a 112% premium over NYX’s closing price on Tuesday, putting the total value of the deal at C$775m (US $631m).

Sci-Games already boasts a healthy portfolio of land-based and online gambling game content, in addition to a plethora of lottery technology products. The addition of NYX not only bolsters these assets but also adds a leading sports betting product in OpenBet, which NYX acquired in spring 2016.

Current NYX CEO Matt Davey is expected to head up a new Digital Gaming and Sports division within Sci-Games. This new division will incorporate NYX’s leadership and that of Sci-Games’ SG Interactive division, including Leigh Nissim, managing director of Sci-Games’ B2B Interactive.

Golovkin-Canelo draw leaves sportsbooks with black eyes

Las Vegas sportsbooks are still nursing their financial bleeding days after the controversial Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez split draw decision.

ESPN reported that long queues of disappointed punters looking for refunds are still present in different Vegas betting shops three days after Golovkin and Alvarez fought to a split draw.

It would be recalled that Judges Adalaide Byrd, Dave Moretti, and Don Trella could not come to much agreement on who won the bout after the two boxers slugged it out for 12 rounds. The result ended with the two best fighters in the world being the undisputed two best fighters in the world.

Sportsbooks, however, weren’t happy with the decision. Most of them thought Golovkin was the clear winner heading into the decision. Punters saw things differently, too. They grumble as they headed to the nearest betting shop for refunds.

Post-fork watch: Bitcoin Cash moves forward with over 8,000 blocks processed

Seven weeks have gone by since the blockchain split last August 1, and the Bitcoin Cash network continues to grow stronger as more supporters rally and build infrastructure around the protocol.

The Bitcoin Cash cryptocurrency and network was the product of the hard fork event, when a group of miners—who have lost confidence in the SegWit2X proposal—decided to take the matters into their own hands and split off from the main Bitcoin blockchain.

And Bitcoin Cash has been forging ahead since then.

At the time of writing, over 8,000 blocks have been processed since the blockchain split, and the Bitcoin Cash chain is 1,200 blocks ahead of the legacy chain. It is currently 13.5 percent more profitable to mine BTC, but profit parity has been close and consistent for the past two weeks.

Roger Ver touts Bitcoin Cash’s future to Bloomberg TV

Even amid the challenges it is facing today, the future of Bitcoin is looking brighter than ever before, according to early investor Roger Ver.

In an interview with Bloomberg TV, the man—who people refer to as the “Bitcoin Jesus”—is confident that the cryptocurrency is only a few years away from critical mass adoption and usage as money.

“The overall trend is definitely up. If you have two forms of money, one that’s incredibly useful and fast and easy to send and receive and you don’t have to beg for permission to be able to use and you have traditional legacy forms of money where you have to ask politicians for permission to use and your accounts can be frozen, it’s clear which one people are going to start to use,” Ver said.

Bitcoin has been embroiled in many controversies and debates, the most heated of which has been on whether the blockchain size limit should be increased or not. This debate has resulted in a group of miners forking from the main blockchain with the creation of Bitcoin Cash last August 1. And with Bitcoin looking more likely to splinter off (again) in November, Ver isn’t planning on putting all of his coins in one chain.
