Online gambling claims one-third of Belgium’s 2015 market revenue

Online gambling sites accounted for one-third of Belgium’s licensed gambling market revenue in 2015, according to new statistics from the state gaming regulator.

This week, the Belgian Gaming Commission (BGC) released its 2016 annual report, which (confusingly) contains Belgian-licensed operators’ financial information from 2015, allegedly due to the slow pace at which operators compile their individual statistics.

According to these stats, Belgian-licensed gambling revenue totaled €622m in 2015, 17% higher than 2014’s tally. Total online revenue was €211.3m, just over one-third of the overall figure.

The BGC’s ‘A’ license category of casino operators reported land-based gaming revenue of €102.3m in 2015, down 7% year-on-year. By contrast, these operators reported their online gambling revenue rising 41.2% to €78.6m in 2015.

Pallone: Federal ban on sports betting a violation of US 10th amendment

New Jersey Rep. Frank Pallone Jr. has backed the bid of the Garden State to overturn a federal law that blocks most states from authorizing sports betting before the U.S. Supreme Court.

NJ.com reported that Pallone, the top Democrat on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, filed a brief before the High Court to defend New Jersey’s plea to legalize sports betting.

Pallone, who had spearheaded a legislation allowing states to legalize sports betting, told the Supreme Court that the federal ban was in violation of the 10th Amendment’s grant of powers to the states.

“By ordering New Jersey to maintain prohibitions on sports gambling that its state legislature has considered and repealed before, Congress is coercing the State of New Jersey to govern according to Congress’s instructions,” Pallone argued.

Las Vegas casinos hit by President Trump’s DACA

Las Vegas casino giants MGM Resorts International and Caesars Entertainment have called members of the Congress to immediately pass a law that will shield undocumented immigrants from possible deportation.

MGM and Caesars made the call just days after the Trump administration announced that it will rescind protections for young people brought to the US illegally as children.

The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival program, or DACA, is a federal government program created in 2012 under Barack Obama to allow people brought to the US illegally as children the temporary right to live, study and work legally in America.

According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, both casino operators are bracing themselves of effect of Trump administration’s immigration policy, given that many of these immigrants brought to the United States are working in some of the state’s leading casinos.

EPL week 4 preview: City v Liverpool; Leicester v Chelsea ties of the week

Lee Davy previews the weekend’s Premier League fixtures including the two Titans Man City and Liverpool, the two previous champions Leicester v Chelsea, and the league leaders, Man Utd, traveling to Stoke.

How rude of the World Cup to thrust a series of mindlessly boring international fixtures in front of our egg and chips. Unless, you were Belgian, in which case you are rather happy, and instead of egg and chips, it would be chips and chips.

It’s time to stop pressing the snooze button.

The Premier League is back.

Bills, Rams have lines move in their favor for week 1 of NFL season

It is certainly understandable to see a team like the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots get love from bettors heading into Week 1, driving them up near double-digit home favorites against the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday night.

But the Buffalo Bills have moved three points from -6 to -9 hosting the New York Jets in an early AFC East battle despite having a first-year head coach and a shaky quarterback.

Sean McDermott will make his debut in Buffalo on Sunday and hopes that Tyrod Taylor will be ready to roll after passing the NFL’s concussion protocol. Taylor is slated to start, but that obviously does not mean he will make a big enough impact to warrant the big line move.

Live MTT round up: Zamani WinStar; Pauker Unibet star; Herstein HPT win

Three tales from the live tournament scene including coverage of the WinStar River Poker Series, Unibet Belgium Poker Championship, and the Heartland Poker Tour Ameristar Chicago East

Benjamin Zamani suffers from an interesting case of synesthesia. When he enters the world’s biggest poker tournaments, the sounds of riffling chips stimulates the uncanny knack of attracting all the money.

The 2017 $2,500 buy-in WinStar River Poker Series Main Event is a classic example. The Floridian came out on top of a 926 player strong event that created a $2,173,000 prize pool.

Zamani, who was down to fewer than ten big blinds at one point during the final table thick and thin, cut a deal with China’s Chengce Jiang, during heads-up, a decision that ultimately led to Zamani picking up a $347,134 pay check.
