Christmas comes early: Sweden release draft gambling legislation

Sweden hopes to have its new liberalized gambling regime in place by 2019, which will finally allow international online operators the chance to legally participate in the market.

On Thursday, the Swedish government confirmed it had sent a copy of its draft gambling legislation (viewable here, in Swedish) to the European Commission for vetting. The formal standstill period will end on March 20, 2018 and the government plans to begin accepting applications for new gambling licenses by July with the new market launch date set for January 1, 2019.

Minister for Public Administration Ardalan Shekarabi said the goal of the legislation was to “regain control of the Swedish gambling market.” Recent figures from the Lotteriinspektionen gaming regulatory body show internationally licensed online operators control one-quarter of Sweden’s overall gambling market.

The new legislation reserves state control over land-based casinos, major lotteries and gaming machines outside casinos, but online sports betting, casino, bingo and other digital products such as virtual sports will be open to all qualified applicants.

Colombia’s sixth online gambling license goes to Mijugada

Colombian punters will soon be welcoming their country’s sixth officially approved online gambling site, Mijugada.co.

On Wednesday, Colombia’s gambling regulatory agency Coljuegos announced that it had issued its latest online gambling license to Bogota-based Grupo Empresarial Geonline S.A.S., which will operate in Colombia’s regulated online market under the Mijugada brand.

The Mijugada.co website is currently only an ‘under construction’ splash page but does include a counter ticking down to the site’s official launch some 30 days from now.

The concession is valid for three years, and Coljuegos president Juan B. Pérez said the value of the contract was worth COP 3.7b (US $1.25m). Colombia issued its first online license in June and Pérez said the new online sector had contributed COP 3.76b to the regulator’s kitty through the end of November.

21st December 2017 – Omni-channel slots specialist Play’n GO has reinvigorated the much-loved fruit slot in its latest title Mystery Joker 6000.

The 3-wheel, 5-payline game delivers the same classical symbols known to slots fans, with the introduction of the Joker symbol which triggers free spins and big wins on finding it.

Mystery Joker 6000 allows players to transfer winnings from the main game into the Super Meter mode, where bets cost double but wins even bigger, and with the Mystery Wheel even easier to find.

China restricts package tours to South Korea anew: report

The Chinese government has reportedly changed its mind on its plans to loosen restrictions on package tours to South Korea.

Korea JoongAng Daily reported that China’s tourism authority has rejected recent applications for group tour visas following the recent state visit of South Korean President Moon Jae-in to Beijing.

Citing tourism industry sources, the Korean news outlet reported that tour operators in Beijing and Shandong Province were told by the Chinese government that group tourist visas to Korea will be blocked again, effective December 20.

The Chinese authorities did not provide any explanation for blocking package tours anew, according to the report. The rejection of group tourist visa applications to South Korea came as a surprise to tour operators since it was the same Chinese government agency that lifted the ban in November.

Shareholders greenlight ‘win-win’ Sci Games’ NYX acquisition

It’s full steam ahead for U.S. gaming technology provider Scientific Games’ acquisition of NYX Gaming Group Ltd., after the Canadian-listed firm’s shareholders overwhelmingly approved the $631 million takeover.

On Wednesday, NYX Shareholders voted to approve the acquisition by way of a Guernsey court-sanctioned scheme of arrangement. Under the Guernsey law, NYX needed the support of at least 75 percent of its shareholders for the deal to push through. Final results show that NYX shareholders’ votes represented 99.6 percent of the shares in the court meeting, according to the company.

NYX will now have to present the tally of the shareholders votes and get the approval of the Royal Court of Guernsey. A Guernsey judge has set the hearing for January 5.

In a statement, NYX CEO Matt Davey described the acquisition as “a win-win for both companies and our collective shareholders,” noting that joining Scientific Games means that they “will become part of a company with unmatched global reach, resources and industry leading content.”

The Battle for Poker’s Crown: partypoker plan $20m GTD MILLIONS Online

partypoker prepares for a $20m GTD MILLIONS Online and Lee Davy takes a look at what the intense competition between them and PokerStars means to the poker industry.

Outside Powell’s bookstore in Portland is a beggar. If you’ve ever been to that neck of the woods, you’ll be aware of the homeless problem. Imagine being one of them. Competition for the penny change is fierce. The beggar outside of Powell’s is different. He is selling things, not asking for things. You can tell he’s thought about his strategy. In making things that we care about, we’re more likely to put our hand in our pocket.

I buy a trinket from the man and step inside the store. The first person I see is a young woman dressed like the Elisabeth Moss character in Bruce Miller’s brilliant TV adaptation of Margaret Attwood’s dystopian novel from the 80s, the Handmaid’s Tale.

I look at my wife, Liza, smile and whisper, “Blessed be the fruit.”

“Dad, how crap is Sami Khedira?”

“Well, it depends on how you rate the guy,” I explain, taken aback by the question. “He’s a destroyer, chosen to break up the play, so if you are looking for him to do that then he’s great, but if you’re looking at him to get you ten goals a season, then he’s crap.”

“Exactly,” said my boy. “He’s just banged two past me, and he’s a CDM, it’s ridiculous.”

Adidas cost me $40 this Christmas; they could cost Bernard Tapie €400m

The French, I-don’t-know-what-you-call-him, Bernard Tapie, is preparing for more court time after The Guardian reports he will be in the dock on charges relating to embezzlement and misuse of public funds.

My mother is giving my boy £50 for Christmas. I’m getting £100. My boy is 16, and I’m 42. As a child of four, growing up on a council estate in Reddish, Stockport, I never got much at Crimbo. There was no gratitude for what I did get, only complaints about what I didn’t get.

So, here we are, having a transatlantic phone conversation about materialism, wealth, and mean as fuck fathers who suddenly mellow out during old age.

“How much will an extra million increase your happiness if you already have multi-millions,” I ask my son.
