Four Pennsylvania casinos have welcomed the new year on bad footing after receiving a total fine of $62,500 for various gambling violations.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB), which is tasked to oversee all aspects of the state’s casino industry, announced on Wednesday that it would levy fines against casino operators Holdings Acquisition Corp. (HAC), Woodlands Fayette, LLC (WFL), Mount Airy #1, LLC (Mount Airy), and Greenwood Gaming & Entertainment, Inc. (GGEI).

HAC, which operates Rivers Casino in Allegheny County, received the biggest penalty of $40,000 for repeated table game procedure violations.

“The fine imposed on Holdings Acquisition Cop., L.P. was the result of four incidents in which errors compromised the integrity of table games,” the state regulator said in a statement.

PCA Reports: The pilgrimage of the Platinum Pass

PokerStars plan to give away 300+ Platinum Passes, worth $30k each, including a $25k seat in the 2019 PokerStars Player’s No-Limit Hold’em Championship, and Lee Davy explores what it may mean to win one.

I’ve just witnessed by first Bahamian sunset. The clouds got in the way. They’ve been getting in the way all week. But as a violin creeps into my ear and tickles my mind, I feel a sense of equanimity. Balance. I’ve missed the riffle of the chips. The overbearing announcements. The joy. The desperation. The search for free water. And as the concerto fades away into the background to be replaced by the sound of falling rain, I have a feeling the ache of wanting a $30k Platinum Pass will drive me mad.

PokerStars plan to distribute over 300 of the things. $8m+ handed to champions, loyal customers and lucky bar stewards in a bid to retain control of the poker ecosystem’s leash. All roads lead to where I sit. In the Atlantis Resort. The grandest stage outside of the World Series of Poker. January 2019. I want in.

I wonder how I would feel if I won a Platinum Pass?

The doors of Grimaldi forum opened on Wednesday when Exhibitors from 14 countries presented their glamorous stands. PCA Reports: Guyanese gratitude from Victor Ramdin

Lee Davy sits down with Victor Ramdin to talk about gratitude, online poker’s prospects in New York, the $25k PokerStars Player’s No-Limit Hold’em Championship and a whole lot more.

Do you ever want to jump into someone’s head and see what they see; think what they think; feel what they feel?

I wouldn’t mind spending some time inside the noggin of Victor Ramdin. Born into poverty on a small Guyanese island, Ramdin managed to catch a coveted PokerStars Team Pro patch via a job as a taxi driver and a morgue security guard where he saw first-hand what a bullet does to a man’s head.

He was 21 when he landed in the US with two promises in his back pocket. He was going to make it, and when he did, he was going to help those in Guyana who struggled as he once struggled.

Buenos Aires governor shakes up casino market

Three casinos in the Argentine province of Buenos Aires are being forced to close as the governor aims to restrict residents’ access to gambling products.

This week, Buenos Aires Gov. María Eugenia Vidal (pictured) confirmed ordering the closure on December 31 of a casino in Valeria del Mar. Two other casinos in Necochea and Mar de Ajó will close in the coming months, and a planned bingo parlor in Temperley will not open.

La Nacion quoted Vidal telling reporters that her administration had kept a tight lid on gambling during its first two years in office. “No more machines were added, we did not open a single lottery agency … Now will follow a state in which we will further restrict the game.”

Prior to the closures, there were 12 casinos and 46 bingo halls in the province. Two of the casinos have licenses that don’t expire until 2019 and 2021, leaving seven casinos that will be part of a new tender process.

DraftKings moving to bigger HQ, hiring hundreds more staff

Daily fantasy sports (DFS) operator DraftKings plans to hire hundreds of new staff to flesh out its new head office.

On Thursday, the Massachusetts-based DraftKings announced plans to shift its corporate headquarters to a 105k-square-foot single-floor property in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood that’s more than twice the size of its current residence. The company says it will officially transfer its flag to the new offices by mid-2019.

More importantly, the company also announced it planned to dramatically expand its payroll from its current 425 warm bodies to over 700, all but 100 of whom will make their home in the new Back Bay digs.

Some of the extra bodies and space will reportedly be devoted to expanding DraftKing’s in-house media production facilities, which sends an involuntary shiver down the spine of everyone who dreads a return to the bad old days of ubiquitous DFS television commercials a few years ago.

Study: BetStars offers speediest mobile registration process

The Stars Group’s online sports betting brand BetStars has the fastest mobile account registration process in the business, according to new research.

Form analytics platform Formisimo released the results of a study of 43 leading UK and European online gambling companies’ mobile sign-up processes. The study, which was conducted in December 2017, determined that it took customers an average of 77.2 seconds to complete the signup process.

BetStars won the registration speed contest, taking only 21.6 seconds to complete the process. At the other end of the scale, Asian-facing operator 188Bet took a whopping 97.8 seconds. (See full rankings at bottom of the page.) However, Formisimo acknowledges that BetStars streamlines its registration process by ‘backloading’ numerous questions until customers are required to make their first deposit.

Formisimo fingered an excess number of fields as the primary culprit behind slower sign-up speeds, but the number of steps also played a role. For example, Skybet and Vernon Sports had similar speed scores, despite Skybet having four fewer fields. But Skybet had nine separate steps, leading to loading delays as well as punters having to click ‘continue’ to get to the next step.
