Troubled casino king Steve Wynn could sell stake in Wynn Resorts

Now that Steve Wynn and his ex-wife Elaine Wynn have settled their fight over a stock fortune worth over $4 billion, the question is: will the one-time King of Las Vegas sell his stakes?

In a Thursday filing, Wynn Resorts reported that the District Court in Clark County, Nevada, ordered the termination of the shareholding agreement between Wynn and the former Mrs. Wynn following a joint submission from the lawyers of both parties.

Under the court order, the 2010 revised shareholders agreement between the pair “is now invalid and unenforceable as a matter of law and that neither party shall have any further rights or obligations thereunder.”

All’s well that ends well?

Unlawfully-hired Kangwon Land staff faces chopping block

South Korean President Moon Jae-in has kicked more than 200 employees out of the state-owned Kangwon Land’s premises after finding that they secured their jobs through unlawful means.

Yonhap News Agency reported that 226 employees got the boot from the president as the government continued to dig deeper into the hiring scandal that rocked South Korea’s locals-only casino.

Authorities found that the 226 employees secured employment in Kangwon Land primarily on the strength of their ties to politicians or other influential figures.

After holding a meeting, Blue House officials agreed to take measures against the employees involved in the hiring scandal, including their dismissal from office. Blue House is the executive office of the South Korean president.

Bitcoin Cash ‘dream team’ to hash out road to bComm future at CoinGeek Conference

The biggest minds in Bitcoin  are all set to take on the challenge of revolutionizing transactions not just for today, but for the future.

At the inaugural CoinGeek.com Conference, which will take place at the Four Seasons Hotel in Hong Kong on May 18, the so-called Bitcoin Cash “dream team”—Bitcoin.com CEO Roger Ver, nChain Chief Scientist Dr. Craig Wright, and Bitmain CEO Jihan Wu—will be sitting down at the Industry Leaders Panel to discuss “The Road to bComm’s Future.”

Currently, the eCommerce sector remains heavily reliant on traditional card payment processors like Mastercard and VISA. But what merchants really need is cryptocurrency, preferably Bitcoin Cash (BCH), which will allow them to pay far lower processing fees than on today’s payment card systems, and with instant payment confirmations on the blockchain, chargebacks will create significantly less financial exposure.

To explain more the keys to moving eCommerce to Bitcoin Commerce (bCommerce), the CoinGeek.com conference will be focusing specifically on merchant adoption of the best micropayment solution with the lowest fees not just for the vendors, but also for the buyers.

Mashantucket, CT Lottery throw support behind Connecticut sports betting bill

A bill seeking to legalize sports betting in Connecticut has gained momentum in the state legislature after receiving the support of both the Connecticut Lottery Corp. (CT Lottery) and tribal casino operator Mashantucket Pequot Tribe.

The Hartford Courant reported the Connecticut held a public hearing on expanded gambling in the state that basically touched all forms of gambling—from sports betting to online and commercial casinos.

The hearing comes at a time when the U.S. Supreme Court (SC) is reviewing a challenge to the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992, which essentially bars states from enacting laws that permit and regulate sports wagering.

Lawmakers believe that Connecticut must put “everything in place” in the event that the High Tribunal decides to lift the federal ban on sports betting.

Calling the Clock: David Pham heads an impressive list of live MTT win doubles

The likes of David Pham, Hermilo Vargas, and Ioannis Angelou-Konstas dominate the poker news this week after doing some pretty impressive things on the felt.

It’s a short and sweet round-up, this week, because poker news has been – short and sweet.

We will begin in the live poker realm, and the awakening of the Dragon. David Pham has been sleeping beneath the slumbering effects of his three World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelets, but this week a thrush began cracking a nut outside his door, and he woke with a vengeance.

Pham entered the $1,600 buy-in 2018 Wynn Spring Classic Main Event with 983 other hopefuls and turned them into toast on his way to a $240,254 victory. Nine days later, he was one of 705 entrants to dig his claws into the $1,675 buy-in World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC) Main Event at the Bicycle Casino in California, and won that one for $216,890, also.

Ilari Sahamies shows survival skills on Finnish Survivor

He’s one of Finland’s most prolific poker players. He’s earned almost $2 million in live action, including multiple final table appearances and cash finishes. He has been seen often on the 2+2 poker forums and plays regularly on PokerStars. Now, Ilari Sahamies is trying to survive at another competition; specifically, Finnish Celebrity Survivor, and has been doing pretty well.

The show was filmed last year in the Philippines and is now being broadcast in Finland. Obviously, the winner hasn’t been—and won’t be—announced just yet, but Sahamies is still listed as a contestant, one of 10 remaining in the game. He’s joined by Miss Finland Sara Chafak, who has dabbled in poker but hasn’t played in any major tournaments. She did, however, participate in an episode of “The Shark Cage” in 2014.

Just like its U.S. version, the show pits two groups against each other in a remote location with virtually nothing to support them for a certain amount of time, usually a little more than a month. They have to forage for food, water and shelter, and participate in competitions to win items that help them survive. The U.S. version has been on the air since 2000, while the Finnish version first launched in 2013.

As the competition proceeds and player relationships are tested, the groups vote off the island one of the contestants until only one survives. While the U.S. version has a top prize of $1 million, in the Finnish version, the winner receives €50,000 ($61,515).

Philippines taps GLI to test POGO licensees’ IP-blocking compliance

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte wants some changes to gambling in his country. Through the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR), he mandated that all holders of Philippine Offshore Gaming (POGO) licenses hide their Internet Protocol (IP) addresses from everyone under the jurisdiction of the Philippines. All offshore gaming operations had to comply by March 15 or face sanctions. The POGOs will now be verified by Gaming Laboratories International (GLI) to ensure compliance.

GLI is an independent operation that provides testing for clients in Australia, New Zealand, Macau, Singapore and, now the Philippines. It is the first to be accepted by Duterte’s government to be an accredited testing facility that offers IP blocking certificates to the POGOs.  In making the announcement of the agreement, GLI VP of iGaming Salim Adatia said: “We are honored to be the first PAGCOR-accredited gaming laboratory to test and certify various IP blocking protocols and solutions for POGO licensees. We knew the importance PAGCOR placed on this mandate and how paramount IP blocking integrity is to this jurisdiction, which now hosts the largest number of online gaming operators in the APAC region.”

President Duterte had promised to crack down on online gambling firms that were accessible to Philippine nationals. At the same time, he has allowed PAGCOR to begin distributing its own gambling licenses for online activities, in direct competition with the only entity to previously have control, First Cagayan.

PAGCOR is owned and controlled by the government. It is currently the largest revenue generator for the government, behind the Bureau of Internal Revenue. PAGCOR operates several casino and VIP slot clubs around the country, and regulates privately owned casinos, eGames cafes and bingo parlors.

NCAA Tournament round of 64 Friday betting preview

If you still have a perfect NCAA Tournament bracket after Thursday’s 16 first-round games, kudos as you already are ahead of the curve. In some respects, the first Friday of the NCAA Tournament sees better basketball overall than Thursday because coaches have an extra day to prepare for their opponent.

No team has repeated as national champion since Florida in 2007, and North Carolina begins its defense Friday as the No. 2 seed in the West Region against No. 15 Lipscomb, a school with an enrollment of about 4,500 located in Nashville. The Bisons were the winners of the Atlantic Sun Tournament to reach their first-ever Big Dance.

Only eight No. 15 seeds have ever upset a No. 2, and Lipscomb doing so as a 19.5-point underdog would surely be the biggest upset in tournament history.
