Malta eyes consolidation of gambling bills

The thick gambling law books in Malta might be reduced to a few pages should the Maltese Parliament succeeds in streamlining all existing legislation into a single act.

On Wednesday, Malta Independent reported that a new gambling bill has been forwarded to the Parliament seeking to repeal the current rules in order to ensure that the gambling industry will be run responsibly.

Parliamentary Secretary for Financial Services, Digital Economy and Innovation Silvio Schembri pointed out that the bill, which is now on its first reading, will make regulations more efficient and, at the same time, provide protection to consumers.

“The government wants to ensure that the gaming industry continues to be run responsibly, fairly and free from criminal activity, so that the Maltese jurisdiction provides a safe and well regulated environment where the industry can also develop and innovate,” Schembri said, according to the news outlet.

Delaware lawmakers shelve casino tax relief bill

Delaware lawmakers have decided to set aside a bill seeking to slash state casino taxes in order to give them a clearer picture of how much revenue the state will lose if the bill is approved.

Delaware Public Media reported that the state Senate Finance Committee has decided to defer discussions on Senate Bill 144 after striking a compromise with Gov. John Carney to wait for the corporate franchise and personal income taxes results before moving forward with the legislation.

Delaware Finance Secretary Rick Geisenberger assured lawmakers that the Carney administration was open to changing the state’s tax structure on the condition that the governor wanted to know its exact cost to the state.

Geisenberger believes that the state stands to lose more than $20 million if Senate Bill (SB) 144 is enacted.

Wynn Macau violated law for disclosing ex-PAGCOR exec’s info: court

It’s payback time for a former Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) executive after a Macau court upheld his claim that Wynn Macau violated the law for disclosing his personal information behind his back.

On Wednesday, the Macau Special Administrative Region (SAR) Court of First Appeal ruled that Wynn Macau violated the law when it shared the personal data of former PAGCOR official Rogelio Yusi Bangsil Jr. with a U.S. law firm investigating the alleged misconduct of Japanese gaming mogul Kazuo Okada.

Prosecution lawyer José Leitão told Macau News Agency (MNA) that “the court confirmed that the act [of Wynn Macau] was committed in violation of the Macau Personal Data Protection Act.”

The confirmation was made a day after Wynn Resorts informed a Nevada court that it would no longer pursue claims of breach of fiduciary responsibility and other offenses against Okada.

I get shit for not voting, but it’s not something that’s at the forefront of my mind. Our parents create our worldview, and my education on politics involved sitting around the TV while my parents sucked on cancer sticks hoping the man holding the battered red briefcase was going to reduce prices on cigarettes and alcohol.

I don’t smoke.

I don’t drink.

US federal agents swoop down on Imperial Pacific’s Saipan office

U.S. authorities raided the office of casino operator Imperial Pacific International Holdings Ltd. in Saipan, seizing several documents related to its integrated resort project in the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Island.

Bloomberg reported that the U.S. federal agents, together with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, swooped down on Imperial Pacific’s office last week, although no one really knows what their business was.

The FBI neither confirmed nor denied the agency’s participation in the raid as part of its legal policy but the agency did give a hint that it was probing Imperial Pacific when it stated that “public corruption is the FBI’s top criminal investigative priority.”

“Elected or appointed officials are entrusted and expected to protect the interests of the people with integrity. When that trust is betrayed, the security and stability of our government is put at risk. Anyone with information about a potential violation of federal law is asked to contact the FBI,” the FBI said in a statement to the news outlet.

As I watch the new girl dip her tongs beneath the cellophane and reach for a freshly cooked croissant, I wonder when we became so French? What happened to greasy cafes with plates swimming in the oil squeezed out of the fried bread. Posh people call it French Toast. I call it death.

Zombies.

They walk in, staring at their mobile phones hoping ‘the one’ has liked ‘the one’, the devil dancing inside their liver jabbing holes with his pitchfork.
