Mr Green’s new live casino offering off to lively start

Swedish online gambling operator Mr Green recorded its sixth straight quarter of higher than expected growth, with a particularly strong showing by its new live casino offering.

An interim report released Friday shows Mr Green generated revenue of SEK381m (US$43.9m) in the three months ending March 31, a 38% rise over the same period last year. Earnings grew 34% to SEK45.8m while net income was up 7% to SEK20.2m.

Mr Green CEO Per Norman credited the growth to “digitally driven customer communication” and an enhanced product offering, including the new Live Beyond Live live casino partnership with tech provider NetEnt. Norman said Mr Green’s Q1 live casino revenue was “higher than total revenue from NetEnt’s live product in 2017.”

Mr Green completed its acquisition of the primarily Nordic-facing Evoke Gaming business in early February, and Norman said “the speed of the integration process is exceeding our plan,” boosting the projected synergies from €2.5m-€3.5m to €4m. Evoke is expected to “recognize a positive result” for Mr Green in Q3.

Wynn Resorts strips Wynn name from Boston Harbor project

Casino operator Wynn Resorts is renaming its half-finished Massachusetts casino project to further distance itself from its former chairman’s sexual harassment allegations.

On Friday, Wynn CEO Steve Maddox met with members of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) to discuss removing Wynn Resorts founder Steve Wynn’s name from the gaming license of the $2.4b Wynn Boston Harbor resort casino project in Everett, just north of Boston, which is scheduled to open in June 2019.

Wynn Resorts suggested in March that a rebrand of the property was likely. At Friday’s hearing, Maddox announced that the property would now be known as Encore Boston Harbor. Encore is the name of a resort property that opened in 2008 as the second phase of the Wynn Las Vegas resort.

Maddox told the MGC members that while “the Wynn brand is strong,’ he also understood “the cultural sensitivity” surrounding the numerous harassment allegations brought against Steve Wynn this year by female staff members.
