State offering up hundreds of unclaimed items for auction; some can be viewed in New Bedford

Unclaimed property including jewelry, coins and baseball memorabilia is being put up for auction by the state and you can see some of what’s up for bid from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday in New Bedford at the Massachusetts State Lottery offices, 200 Theodore Rice Blvd. State Treasurer Deb Goldberg said the vast majority of items come from abandoned safe deposit boxes that have gone unclaimed for a period of at least nine years despite efforts to reunite them with their rightful owners. The items are being displayed at the Statehouse on Monday ahead of a live auction that begins Saturday on eBay.
