Skill-based casino game makers lining up to wow G2E attendees

Real-money skill-based gaming device makers continue to roll out new products ahead of next week’s Global Gaming Expo (G2E) in Las Vegas.

On Thursday, GameCo announced that it would unveil its new multigame bartop cabinet version of its Video Game Gambling Machine (VGM) technology, which marries traditional casino gaming elements with skill-based elements for real-money casino play.

The “bar-ready” Bartop VGM that GameCo will unveil at G2E will also feature the company’s New Gen 2 game titles, including infinite runner game Steve Aoki’s Neon Dream, which GameCo claims is the first product to mix “celebrity, gaming and music.”

Other titles include bubble shooter game Poseidon’s Deep Sea Saga, tile-matching game Cosmic Candy Heist, and hidden object game Twisted Worlds.

Caesars restructuring gets final gaming regulatory okay

Casino operator Caesars Entertainment Corporation (CEC) is close to waking up from its long national restructuring nightmare after clearing its final regulatory hurdles.

On Tuesday, CEC announced that the court-approved restructuring plan of its bankrupt main unit Caesars Entertainment Operating Co (CEOC) had received thumbs-up from gaming regulators in Louisiana and Missouri.

When the Illinois bankruptcy court approved the CEOC restructuring plan in January, it did so with the proviso that gaming regulators in each state in which CEOC did business would also give the plan their blessing. The Louisiana and Missouri approvals mark the two final stops on CEOC’s restructuring tour, which included visits to eight other US states.

CEC plans to split CEOC into two units: one to manage its gaming operations, and a real estate investment trust (REIT) to own the land on which these casinos sit. Meanwhile, CEC plans to merge with Caesars Acquisition Company (CAC), reversing the process that saw the two companies split in two in 2013.

Uruguay to block online gambling domains, payments, marketing

Uruguay has made good on its threats to impose strict prohibition of online casino and poker sites while introducing new taxes on state-approved forms of gambling.

Last week, the Uruguayan Senate voted 30-6 in favor of the country’s new Accountability Law, which includes the new gaming provisions. The bill was previously approved by the country’s lower house, and was signed into law on Monday by Uruguyan President Tabaré Vázquez.

Among Law 19.535’s gambling-related changes is a new 0.75% tax on gambling turnover made through officially approved casinos, gaming halls, racetracks, sports betting shops and the operations of the state-owned National Directorate of Lotteries and Quinielas.

The national lottery operator is also the only operator approved to operate online gambling, and only for sports betting. Law 19.535’s Article 244 states that “casino games such as poker, roulette, slots” and similar products are “absolutely prohibited” via any remote channels.
