Cloud-Based Gaming Company Playkey Successfully Raises $10.5 million in ICO

6th December 2017: Cloud-based gaming platform Playkey has completed its ICO (Initial Coin Offering) campaign, raising just over $10.5 million. The funds will primarily be used to build a blockchain based P2P gaming infrastructure, providing gamers with the benefit of using old computing devices for modern games, by renting server capacity from the network.

During the course of the campaign 100,000,000 tokens of Playkey’s proprietary cryptocurrency (PKT) were released, 60% of which were available for sale. The amount earned was comprised primary of private investments. Three investment funds—Uncharted Capital, Allrise and G2H2 Capital—also bought over one million dollars worth of tokens each.

Egor Gurjev, CEO of Playkey said: “Raising over ten million dollars in a couple of months was a challenge, but it was also proof of the quality of our product and our company’s performance. During this time we participated in top blockchain conferences all over the world, from CoinAgenda Global in Las Vegas to the World Blockchain Forum in London, won Startup Sauna in Singapore, formalized a partnership with the South Korean Coinlink market, and obtained support from professionals from industries ranging from blockchain to VR. The money raised will go toward developing Playkey’s decentralized blockchain based P2P model as well as expanding into the American and Asian markets.”

Playkey’s technology already allows players to run modern games on low-spec and outdated PCs and laptops. The launch of Playkey’s decentralized P2P platform in late 2018 will allow them to develop the project’s infrastructure—users’ computers all over the world will be added to their own servers as rented mini-servers. The currency used within the Playkey ecosystem will be PKT.

UBS gobbles $339M Tracinda stake in MGM Resorts

International brokerage UBS Securities LLC will buy some $339 million worth of MGM Resorts common stock from private investment firm Tracinda Corporation.

Tracinda is unloading its 16.2 percent stake in MGM Resorts following the demise of its founder Kirk Kerkorian in June 2015. Kerkorian, which also founded MGM Resorts International, reportedly stated in his last will and testament that Tracinda must dispose its stake in the U.S.-listed casino operator.

In a regulatory filing, MGM announced that Tracinda is selling 10 million MGM Resorts shares to UBS, with the price of US$33.89 per share representing a discount of approximately 1 percent from the closing price of the common stock on December 4.

Tracinda expects UBS to settle the transaction on today.

William Hill gives way to Sci Game-NYX acquisition

U.S. gaming technology provider Scientific Games Corp. is close to sweeping NYX Gaming Group Ltd. off its feet after British bookmaker William Hill has given way to the acquisition the Toronto-listed firm.

Sci Games announced on Thursday that it has already entered an independent agreement to support the previously announced acquisition of NYX for CAD2.40 (US$1.87) per ordinary share.

At the same time, Sci Games reported that it has also successfully inked a deal with William Hill Steeplechase Ltd. and parent firm William Hill Plc “to end all existing litigation among the parties.”

It would be recalled that NYX and Sci Games lodged separate anti-trust suits against Hills before the New Jersey and Nevada courts last month after the British bookmaker threatened to block the deal unless it he received certain assurances regarding the continuity of its OpenBet arrangement.

Becky’s Affiliated: A year in review- how the gaming industry is making a difference

“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”- Winston Churchill

When my Editor-in-Chief asked me to put together this post, I was already aware of Calvin Ayre’s work, some of the industry events that support charities and a handful of corporate or personal initiatives through my interviews and every day conversations.  It wasn’t until I started looking for more examples of charity work that I realized just how much our industry is doing.

My first thought after uncovering such a wealth of examples was Jan Jones Blackhurt’s statement during WGES that we need to do a better job of sharing our charitable work as an industry, from a recruitment, internal and external reputation perspective.  The gaming industry still struggles with a bad reputation, why not educate others on the good work we are doing for those in need?

“The gaming industry has a valuable story to tell, we just don’t know how to tell the story”, Jones-Blackhurst said.
