Social sports betting platform SportKenya aims to conquer Africa

Social betting technology developer Oddslife has entered the African market by taking its B2B social betting platform into Kenya with one of the continent’s largest sports betting affiliates.

Launched in partnership with WinDrawWin.com and PredictZ.com and sponsored by local operator Betin.co.ke, www.SportKenya.co.ke will be launched in Kenya before moving into countries such as Nigeria, Ghana, Tanzania and Uganda to create a unified African competition in time for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

This new venture, available for preview at www.SportKenya.co.ke will focus on establishing a traffic network to connect with affiliates, media and traffic websites in Africa who are looking for new ways to both retain and monetise their traffic.

Mathew Symmonds, Founder of Web Analysis Solutions Limited, which operates both WinDrawWin.com and PredictZ.com, commented: “We have organically grown a lot of loyal African traffic over the past 14 years on our websites, but it has grown exponentially over the last 3-4 years in countries like Kenya and Nigeria.”

Santee Sioux Tribe opposes gambling rule change

A Native American tribe has appealed to South Dakota gambling regulators to forget its plan to remove a requirement that certain electronic wagering businesses use a bank located in South Dakota.

The Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe is up in arms over a proposed gambling rule change in South Dakota as it believes that it will help Bettor Racing Inc. owner J. Randy Gallo evade paying about $5 million owed to the tribe, according to the Associated Press.

In a letter to Gov. Dennis Daugaard last month, Tribe President Anthony Reider claimed that the rule change favors Bettor Racing. Reider explained that the proposed new rule will aid Bettor Racing in blocking the enforcement of what he described as a “hard fought” court judgment.

He feared that the tribe will be chasing after Bettor Racing “forever” if the state changes the rule and allowed to bounce from bank to bank. Reider claimed that Bettor Racing already took out its assets from South Dakota and that the company sources its money in North Dakota and Florida.

Better Collective breaks into UK M&A market with CasinoLounge.co.uk acquisition

Wednesday 6th September, 2017 – Better Collective, the world’s leading developer of digital platforms for betting tips, bookmaker information and iGaming communities, has completed its first major acquisition in the UK market with the purchase of CasinoLounge.co.uk. This acquisition comes shortly after Better Collective’s significant acquisition of the Austrian affiliate, SportFreunde.

With bettingexpert.com being a popular player in the UK, Better Collective have a long-targeted growth strategy within the region, especially with the continued expansion of their casino presence.

CasinoLounge.co.uk started in 2013 as the brainchild of only two people, and joined the Cashmio organisation in 2015. With the recent growth of Cashmio, the owners of CasinoLounge.co.uk felt that it wasn’t receiving the attention it deserved. The acquisition by Better Collective is mutually beneficial for all parties, as their experience and resources will help develop CasinoLounge.co.uk even further as Cashmio focuses on their own Casino business.

CasinoLounge.co.uk is Better Collective’s first large acquisition in the UK casino market—but the ambition is to build on this achievement and continue forward in the UK.

The professionalisation of sports betting

This is a guest contribution by Rasmus Sojmark, founder & CEO of SBC Global. If you would like to submit a contribution please contact Bill Beatty for submission details. Thank you.

The international gaming industry has seen sports betting become a phenomenon over the last two decades, and its rapid rise is something we are no strangers to at SBC Global. We have witnessed the vertical continue to grow out of betting shops and expand with the internet onto desktop, before blowing up on smartphones in the early 2010s and going from strength to strength ever since.

The influence of smartphones on this growth certainly bears more than a passing mention. Around 2006 was when mobile became the hottest word on everyone’s lips in the sports betting industry, but it was not until later that it began to truly take hold in the minds of players, operators and suppliers alike, with responsive web design and remarkable innovations such as in-play betting, and later cash out features, transforming the relationship between player and bookmaker.

Putting an increasingly active sports betting experience in the palm of people’s hands, with thousands of worldwide markets available with the swipe of a finger has seen sports betting rise to become the dynamic and colossal industry that it is today. There are a number of factors at play that the industry must be prepared to tackle, however, if it is to continue with this positive upward momentum and grow at the same rate it has done in recent times.

Week 2 college football board topped by Oklahoma vs. Ohio State

The Ohio State Buckeyes trailed the Indiana Hoosiers 14-13 last Thursday before waking up in the second half, cruising to a 49-21 rout and covering the spread after failing to do so in the previous six meetings.

This week, they welcome the Oklahoma Sooners to Columbus in the biggest game on the slate and hope to duplicate last year’s performance in Norman as 7.5-point home favorites according to oddsmakers.

Ohio State crushed Oklahoma 45-24 as a small road favorite in 2016 behind a powerful rushing performance, and bettors have kept the betting line for the rematch right near the opening number so far.

Bumbet to sponsor Miss BumBum 2017

Most press releases about a new sponsorship talk about the synergy between the event or team and the company stumping up the cash but this really is a hand in glove fit. The deal between Brazilian online betting firm Bumbet and the Miss BumBum competition, where the hunt is on to find Brazil’s best behind, is the biggest in the competition’s 6 year history.

Cacau Oliver, journalist and sposman for the Miss BumBum competition commented: “This was a very easy decision for us to team up with the Copa Sudamericana and Copa do Brasil sponsor Bumbet and so it will be the first year we’ll have odds on the event too.”

Representative for Bumbet added: “We just had to do this one didn’t we? It’s great to be on board and hope to bring an added dimension to the competition and its global audience. How we will make the odds on the event, I have no idea, but our trading team will be doing very extensive research into every competitor!”

DDoS ‘terrorist’ tells Nagy ‘another site’ pays for attacks on the WPN

After the Winning Poker Network suffered a weekend of Distributed Denial of Service attacks, CEO Philip Nagy, begins to believe the attacks may be personal.

Can you imagine listening to Sympathy for the Devil without Marianne Faithfull, Anita Pallenberg and the rest of the gang refusing the sing the woo woos?

I imagine that’s how the Winning Poker Network (WPN) feels after one of their biggest weekends of the year came crashing down due to a series of Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks.

It’s not the first time that the WPN has been carpet bombed with DDoS attacks, and it won’t be the last, but WPN CEO Phil Nagy believes he may be on to something.

Salewski wins PokerStars Sunday Million Live; Brits begin well in WCOOP

A young German poker player has won the inaugural PokerStars Sunday Million Live, and the British have started well at the 2017 World Championship of Online Poker with two wins, and a second in the first four events.

There was a time when a Sunday sucked balls.

An afternoon down the pub with your mates, watching the footy, couldn’t make up for the dreary Sunday night TV, and inevitable insomnia, knowing you had to wake the next morning and clock on for a job you hated.

And then, on March 6, 2006, PokerStars changed everything when they created a $215 buy-in event that afforded an escape from Songs of Praise, the Antiques Roadshow, and Swiss Rolls, with a $1m guaranteed prize pool.

Golden Nugget Casino owner buys the Houston Rockets for $2.2 billion

The owner of the Golden Nugget Casino chain has reportedly bought the NBA’s Houston Rockets for a record $2.2 billion, according to sources from ESPN.

The Houston Rockets has a new owner, but die-hard fans don’t have to worry, they won’t see their side running out to the sounds of Crazy in Love.

When Leslie Alexander announced plans to sell his beloved Rockets, back in July, Houston native Beyonce was one of the first people to express an interest.

And Beyonce wasn’t alone with a variety of former NBA stars, celebrities and entrepreneurs keen on taking over the reins of the two time NBA Champions.

China reports first conviction under new VPN crackdown

A Chinese software seller has become the first individual convicted under China’s new crackdown on the use of virtual private networks (VPN).

On Monday, the South China Morning Post reported that Deng Jiewei, a 26-year-old resident of Guangdong province, had been sentenced to nine months in prison for selling VPN software via a pair of websites he operated with his partner.

Deng’s websites had offered two different VPN software products since October 2015, and the authorities reportedly arrested him in August 2016. While the information was only made public this weekend, Deng was apparently convicted in March of “providing software and tools for invading and illegally controlling the computer information system.”

Many Chinese citizens utilize VPN technology to get around the country’s ‘great firewall’ that blocks citizens’ access to sites frowned upon by the government. The technology is the main conduit through which Chinese gamblers visit internationally licensed online gambling sites offering sports betting and other gaming products that aren’t permitted on the Chinese mainland.
