SEA games football match-fixer gets four-year jail time

Singapore’s most prolific match-fixer in terms of convictions was sentenced to four years in jail Monday for conspiring to fix a match in the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

Rajendran Kurusamy has pleaded guilty to charges of bribing East Timor’s under-23 football team manager and players to lose a preliminary match against Malaysia on May 30 in Singapore.

Kurusamy have met with Orlando Marques Henriques Mendes, team manager and technical director of the Football Federation of Timor Leste, in Singapore on May 28, with the help of an Indonesian referee Nasiruddin and former player Moises Natalino De Jesus.

Mendes was offered 15,000 Singapore dollars ($10,700)  to hold a goalless score-line for 20 minutes in a first-round match against Malaysia, before losing by a few goals. Mendes allegedly accepted the bribe and at least seven players were offered $4,000 ($2,844) each.

Donaco launches Heng Sheng VIP room at Star Vegas casino

Donaco International Ltd. has launched Heng Sheng VIP club at its newly-acquired casino in Cambodia.

Under the three year deal signed in August, Heng Sheng will bring their VIP players to a new dedicated gaming facility at the Star Vegas Resort & Club, expanding the casino’s customer base beyond its current patronage by Thai customers.

The deal between Donaco and Heng Sheng Group could produce as much as $29m per year in additional gross gaming revenue at Star Vegas Resort

The Sunday launch was attended by more than 400 VIP players, with initial 30 new baccarat tables in operation for the launch.

OFW accused of stealing lottery ticket cleared

An Overseas Filipino Worker in Singapore can now breathe a sigh of relief after she was cleared of accusations that she stole a lottery ticket that had a $2.3 million grand prize in the Singapore Sweep. In a report published on The Straits Times , Ms Len , who won the lottery ticket and deposited the prize money into her bank account, was told by cops that her account was no longer frozen.

Mashpee Wampanoag to build Massachusetts casino in 2016

Mashpee Wampanoag to begin construction of a $500 million resort casino in Taunton, Massachusetts in 2016.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs on Friday approved the tribe’s application to hold over 300 acres in Taunton and Mashpee in trust.

Tribal Chairman Cedric Cromwell called it “truly a glorious, monumental day” for the Mashpee Wampanoag, which became a federally recognized tribe in 2007.

“Today, history has come full-circle,” said Cromwell in a statement. “While some outside the Tribe will focus only on our quest to build a destination resort casino in Taunton … for us this goes far beyond economic development. This is about controlling our own destiny and preserving our ancient culture.”

Only the Ravens and Dolphins garnered more public backing, hitting 79 and 80-percent prior to kickoff. Baltimore (-6) failed to escape the Black Hole, falling 33-37 to Oakland while Miami (-5) suffered a 20-23 loss to the usually toothless Jaguars.

Dore investors urged Macau government to intervene at theft case

Dore Entertainment investors have made another effort to draw public attention, urging the Macau government to address the theft case.

In a press conference, attendees along with Macau lawmaker Pereira Coutinho has estimated about 70 investor’s deposits amounting to approximately HKD700 million have been compromised during Dore’s theft.

“The background of the investors is diverse. Some of them are housewives, others are engineers, architects, others work in casinos,” said Coutinho. “Some signed a contract with a certain VIP room, others made bank transfers and only have the proof of the transfer, others paid in cash and received a receipt from a VIP room.”

Coutinho blamed the incomplete gaming regulations and for not explicitly defining the legal identities of those involved, stressing that the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) cannot turn its back on the case as it is the one that grant licenses to casino operators.

Fantasy sports ad blitz could breach $150M in Q3

DraftKings and FanDuel, two of the leading daily fantasy sports platforms, spent a combined estimate of $31 million to drive many fans crazy during National Football League’s first week, but according to a Nomura analyst, there will be more ad blitz coming in the next months.

“Although perhaps a temporary phenomenon, we believe that growth in ad spending from DFS could drive an incremental 40-60 (basis points) in 3Q15 Internet/media ad spend growth,” Nomura analyst Anthony DiClemente said in a research note. “An incremental 50bps represents roughly a third of our estimated +1.5 percent year-on-year 3Q TV advertising growth assumption, with most benefits accruing to broadcasters of the NFL.”

DiClemente forecasts that DFS sites will spend more than $150 million for TV advertising in the third quarter of the year, while total ad spending will reach between $140 million to $175 million in Q3.

Shrinking gambling industry will not cure Illinois’ money woes

Lawmakers placing their bets on expanding the gambling industry in Illinois to replenish the state’s depleting coffers are in for disappointing news.

A new report from the General Assembly’s Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability showed that state revenues from all forms of gambling reached $1.184 billion in fiscal year 2015, which is a 5.8 percent drop from FY 2014’s $1.258 billion.

Lottery made the biggest contribution at $690 million, followed by riverboat gambling at $292 million, while revenues from video gaming came in at $196 million, and horse racing at $7 million.

Illinois originally receives gambling tax from three sources—riverboat gambling, lottery and horse racing. But in 2012, the first legalized video gaming machines were put into operation. According to COGFA, revenue from video gaming machines contributed $241 million to state and local government coffers this year, but it was not enough to offset the $29 million loss in riverboat gaming transfers and the $125 million decrease in lottery transfers.

Former England captain, and World Cup winner, Lawrence Dallaglio, and former Ireland captain, Keith Wood, have been signed by the world’s largest Internet betting exchange to star in exclusive video content, and give their view on betting lines within the competition.

Dallaglio played for the London Wasps for the entirety of his career. He earned 85 England caps between 1995 and 2007, and captained the side until he was forced to resign his position in 1999, after the News of the World alleged he at one time used cocaine and ecstasy.
