WSOP Review: Michael Tureniec Wins Little One For ONE DROP

Michael Tureniec has won the final World Series of Poker bracelet handed out this summer after topping a field of 4,360 entrants in the $1,111 No-Limit Hold’em Little One for ONE DROP.

Michael Tureniec is the winner of the $1,111 Little One for ONE DROP. The Swede defeated the World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner, Calvin Anderson, in a tough heads-up encounter to earn his first bracelet and the third largest prize of his career.

When Tureniec won his European Poker Tour (EPT) Main Event title in 2011, he was one of the most talked about Europeans in live tournament poker, so it’s surprising that his appearance at the final table of the Little One for ONE DROP was the first of his career.

The event was unlimited re-entry with three starting flights. 4,360 entrants created a $3,924,000 kitty, raising $1,206,478 for the ONE DROP charity, and when the action was five-handed Anderson held over half of the chips in play.

The VIP baccarat share of overall gaming revenue was 51.5%, down from 55.5% in the same period one year ago and from 54.1% in Q1 2016. By contrast, mass market baccarat saw its share rise from to 36.1% from 32.7% last year.

China’s Baidu search engine under fire for gambling sites’ stealth advertising

China’s leading search engine Baidu is in full damage control mode following an investigative report into illegal online gambling advertising.

On Sunday, the Beijing News ran a report detailing how online betting operators were hijacking corporate ad links on Baidu. Users who clicked on these links were sent to unauthorized gambling sites rather than to the companies the ads claimed to be promoting.

The gambling operators apparently registered corporate accounts with Baidu using the names of legitimate companies that had failed to register with Baidu. The resulting links appeared in Baidu results with the ‘V’ symbol indicating a verified corporate account.

These accounts were opened via third-party marketing services that require little to no verification of identity from clients. One such agent claimed to conduct most of its business with advertising clients via the popular QQ messaging app.

Mt. Gox ex-CEO pays close to $100K in bail to walk out of Tokyo jail

After spending close to 10 months in a Japanese jail, Mark Karpeles is finally out.

The former CEO of the now defunct Mt. Gox bitcoin exchange has been granted bail by the Tokyo District Court last week after he deposited the bail amount of ¥10 million (USD94,500), Japanese media outlets reported.

French-born Karpeles, 31, made international headlines in August 2015, when he was arrested in Tokyo on charges of unlawfully extracting and using private electromagnetic records. Police said Karpeles accessed the exchange’s U.S.-hosted trading platform in 2013 and altered the data in his personal account twice.

Japanese authorities slapped Karpeles with additional charges of embezzlement after investigators discovered the Mt. Gox executive transferred some ¥321 million—worth $2.7 million at the time—of clients’ funds to other accounts. A good portion of the money, according to reports, were used to fund Karpeles’ personal expenses, including his rent and to pay for the women “he met at venues that offer sexual services.”
