WSOP Poker Player’s Championship: A Story of Humility

The $50,000 Poker Player’s Championship is one of the greatest poker tournaments in the world. It separates the men from the boys. But does this mean that the 2016 winner’s story is about greatness, or could it be about humility?

The [Ks] hits the felt. Brian Rast checks the action over to Justin Bonomo. This was it. This was the moment. All the pain; all the sorrow; all of the close shaves. It was the big one. A hush falls over the crowd.

All eyes turn to Bonomo.

Pro-gambling group pushes for first casino-style gaming in Nebraska

Pro-casino groups are pushing for the legalization of a casino-style gaming at Nebraska horse tracks, saying that they have more than enough signatures to get the issue on the November ballot.

Keep the Money in Nebraska, a group backed by Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska, is confident that the thousands of pages of signature they have compiled will be more than enough to satisfy the state statutes in order for the measure to be included in November polls.

Former state senator and now pro-casino campaign spokesman Scott Lautenbaugh said the group spent months at festivals, sporting events and concerts asking Nebraskans to sign petitions to put three questions on the November ballot that would allow casinos to be built in the state.

And before Thursday’s deadline, Lautenbaugh claimed that they had more than enough signatures to show to Nebraska Secretary of State John Gale that Nebraskans wanted a casino-style gaming in their state.

Euro 2016 Review: France to Play Portugal in the Final

France will play Portugal in the final of Euro 2016 after stunning the Germans by 2-0 in a cauldron of an atmosphere in Marseille.

When Rocky Balboa stepped into the ring, you knew what to expect. It didn’t matter who he was facing. For 15-rounds they would beat the crap out of him. For 15-rounds he would look for that one opportunity.

And.

Then.

Sikkim gov’t bans locals from casinos

The Indian state of Sikkim has prohibited local residents from entering casinos, allegedly for their own protection.

On Thursday, Sikkim’s government issued an official notification stating that locals were no longer welcome in the state’s two casinos. The government said it had amended the Sikkim Casino Games (Control and Tax) Rules, 2007 to “safeguard the interest of the local people.”

The government denied that the change was an example of “moral policing.” An official told The Calcutta Telegraph that there had been “lots of opposition from a section of people” who believe gambling “is not good for a progressive state such as Sikkim.” Politicians in India’s other active casino state, Goa, have also considered banning locals.

Effective immediately, only persons bearing a photo ID card or passport issued from a jurisdiction outside Sikkim will be allowed entry. Casino operators will be required to keep records of all people entering their establishments and could face license suspension or revocation if they fail to keep locals out.

Philippine casinos could be required to report all transactions over $3,200

Casinos in the Philippines could be required to report all transactions above $3,200 if a new Senate bill becomes law.

On Monday, new legislation was introduced in the Philippine House of Representatives that would remove the exemption casinos received under the nation’s Anti-Money Laundering Act (AMLA) of 2001. On Thursday, the Senate got its own bill to increase scrutiny of casino transactions.

In introducing Senate Bill 45, Sen. Panfilo Lacson specifically referenced the recent Bangladeshi bank heist that saw $81m in stolen funds flow through local casinos and junket operators. Lacson said the scandal had exposed the AMLA’s “vulnerabilities” and steps were required to guard against “the raging threats of money laundering.”

SB 45 would require casinos to report individual or aggregate transactions totaling P150k ($3,200) over a single gaming day. By way of comparison, US federal reporting requirements set the single transaction threshold at $10k.

Tony G Applies for UKIP Leadership

Antanas Guoga, Member of Europe Parliament for the Republic of Lithuania, or as most of us know him bombastic poker player Tony G, has a nose for a publicity opportunity. Which is why he is attempting to stand for the leadership of the UK Independence Party (UKIP). A footnote for those not so hot on […]

Larry Flynt buys Normandie Casino; card rooms dodge house-banked bullet

Larry Flynt, founder of the Hustler adult entertainment empire, has bought California card room Normandie Casino.

On Thursday, the California Gambling Control Commission unanimously approved the porn baron/civil liberties champion taking over the Normandie property, which was founded by Russ Miller in 1947 and had remained under the control of Miller family members ever since.

The sale price wasn’t disclosed, but the Miller family was the very definition of motivated sellers, having been given 120 days to sell the property after state regulators revoked the gaming licenses of four Millers in April.

In January, federal authorities imposed a $2.5m penalty on the Normandie’s owners for violations of the Bank Secrecy Act. Casino staff were found to have advised customers on how to structure transactions to avoid federal reporting requirements and failed to flag other dodgy transactions.
