Gov’t: Macau’s GGR to continue its freefall in H2

Macau is finally seeing some clear silver lining on the prevailing economic gloom.

Latest casino gross gaming revenue data released by Macau’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau shows encouraging signs that the Chinese gambling hub is on its track toward recovery – albeit at a slower pace.

In a statement, the Macau Government predicts that the decline in casino gross gaming revenue (GGR) “is likely to persist for some more time” in the second half of 2016.

The basis of its forecast was the recent data released by the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau on Friday, which showed that Macau posted a MOP15.88 billion (US$1.99 billion) GGR in June –  the lowest monthly tally since September 2010, when the aggregate for such revenue was MOP15.30 billion [US$ 1.91 billion].

Casino labor groups back Macau Casino Law revision

A plan to amend Macau’s Casino Law gets a big push from at least 11 local associations representing the interests of casino employees.

Macau Daily Times reported that the association threw its support on the revision of Law No. 10/2012 or “Regulating the Conditions of Entering, Working, and Gaming Casinos” after reaching a broad agreement on the proposed amendment with the government during their meeting last week.

A new provision banning gaming workers from taking part in any gaming related activities inside casinos during non-work hours is set to be included under the proposed amendment of Law No. 10/2012.

Saying that it would help lessen the risk of those workers becoming problem gamblers and would – in the long run – help maintain a healthy development of the gaming industry, the representatives of the associations gave the proposed law revision a thumbs-up.

While some companies involved in the industry choose to skip some conferences and attend only the ones that they have already attended in earlier editions, the smaller companies get ahead and attract new clients. This doesn’t necessarily mean that the conferences that are attended frequently aren’t good for business. However, if you just give a good though about how event organizers try to make their conferences/seminars better than everyone else, by bettering the experience, improving on the faults they have seen at other, to achieve a quality ROI for their sponsors and attendees, you will not miss another new conference ever.

Small business owners are busy, so the thought of taking a few days away from the office to participate in a conference, trade show, convention or seminar can seem like a waste of time.  However, these live meetings might be just what you need to uncover new ways to growing your business.

No matter how experienced you are at your business, everyone can learn.  Working in a small business venture can often be isolating, and without exposure to a variety of points of view, we can miss new ideas and trends that can impact future results. The educational aspect of a conference can expose you to new ways of conducting your business and help you discover new markets and of course network, since conferences provide a great opportunity to network. Often competitors from other regions of the country can become valuable resources for referrals and best-practices. Avoiding peers for fear of others discovering your competitive advantage can actually limit your own success. Collaboration is the way to approach networking. While there are those whose intentions can be suspect, most people can help each other uncover ideas and spark inspiration when they get to know each other on a personal level.
