Texas joins daily fantasy sports legislation parade

Texas has joined the parade of US states looking to regulate daily fantasy sports activity in 2017.

On Wednesday, State Rep. Richard Peña Raymond made good on last year’s vow to introduce legislation that would formally authorize DFS activity in the Lone Star state by classifying it as a game of skill.

HB 1457 would allow a “fantasy sports contest operator” to award cash prizes “based on the relative knowledge and skill of the contest participants and based predominantly on accumulated statistical results” of the actual athletes on the field.

HB 1457 would not allow fantasy contests that depended on scores, point spreads or “any single performance of an individual athlete in a single professional or amateur sports competition,” as well as any contest based on live pari-mutuel racing.

Vermantia launch eSports betting partnership with PvPRO Gaming

Vermantia Immersive Gaming has joined eSports betting community after entering into a collaboration with the eSports tournament and gaming platform PvPRO Gaming.

I was talking to my mate the other day when he told me of a recent win on the horses. He knows a man, who knows a man, who knows a trainer, who knows when horses are going to win or not. He gets this red hot tip and tells all of his mates about it (except me).

Now, he’s not a gambling man, but it’s a red hot tip, right. He talks his wife into allowing him to put £100 at odds of 10/1 and it comes in.

“Your heart must have been trying to jump out of your ribs,” I said.

NFL wouldn’t have let Adelson own a piece of Oakland Raiders

National Football League Commissioner Roger Goodell says Las Vegas Sands casino magnate Sheldon Adelson never stood a chance at acquiring an ownership stake in the Oakland Raiders.

On Monday, Adelson issued a statement saying he was withdrawing his $650m commitment to help build a new stadium in Las Vegas that would serve as the new home of the Raiders should their relocation plans be approved by the other NFL owners.

Raiders owner Mark Davis quickly suggested the stadium deal was still a go and that investment bank Goldman Sachs would help make up the shortfall caused by Adelson’s withdrawal. But Tuesday brought news that Goldman Sachs was also pulling out of the deal, putting the Raiders relocation plans on seriously shaky ground.

On Wednesday, Goodell (pictured) held his annual pre-Super Bowl Q&A with the media, during which he was queried regarding Adelson’s alleged demand for an ownership stake in the Raiders in exchange for his financial assistance.

New Jersey pols revive federal sports betting bills

A pair of New Jersey congressmen have revived their push to have the US federal government lift its longstanding ban on legal sports betting.

With the Super Bowl just days away, Representatives Frank LoBiondo and Frank Pallone Jr. have reintroduced legislation to overturn the federal PASPA sports betting prohibition, which for a quarter-century has restricted single-game sports betting to the state of Nevada.

The reps have introduced two separate bills, with Pallone’s NJ BET Act aimed at exempting New Jersey from the PASPA prohibition while LoBiondo’s Sports Gaming Opportunity Act would offer a four-year window in which all US states could choose for themselves whether they want legal sports betting within their borders.

For the record, LoBiondo and Pallone have been pitching versions of these bills for years but these efforts have yet to make any headway on Capitol Hill, and there’s no indication that this year will be any different.
