Donald Trump’s impeachment odds spikes after Comey sacking

The sudden dismissal of FBI Director James Comey has caused the betting odds of U.S. President Donald Trump facing impeachment to skyrocket.

No president has ever gotten the amount of talk and betting as the 45th leader of the free leader, who can’t go a day without finding himself at the center of some sort of controversy. This week, it’s the firing of Comey for allegedly mishandling the Clinton email investigation.

The president, however, admitted that he was thinking of “this Russia thing” when he decided Comey’s fate. The now-ex FBI director had been leading the investigation into possible collusion between Trump advisers and Russian officials prior to his dismissal.

“And, in fact, when I decided to just do it, I said to myself, I said: ‘You know, this Russia thing with Trump and Russia is a made up story, it’s an excuse by the Democrats for having lost an election that they should’ve won,’” Trump told NBC News.

New Indiana casino tax law draws praises from operators

Casino operators in Indiana have hit a jackpot after state Gov. Eric Holcomb recently signed a new casino tax law.

The Chicago Tribune reported that many casino operators had previously called on the state government to abolish the add-back tax on casinos, which they described to be unfair. Many lamented that casinos are the only businesses in the state that are required to pay the add-back tax

Their pleas were finally heard when Holcomb signed House Bill 1350 into a law. The new casino tax law effectively phased out an add-back tax over eight years and switch them from an admissions tax to a supplemental wagering tax, which was based on a percentage of gross gaming revenues.

Blue Chip Casino and Spa, which claimed to be one of the hardest hit by the admissions tax believes that the enactment of the new tax law will provide the Indian casino industry with stability from a tax perspective, and it will encourage additional re-investment in Indiana.

Daily fantasy sports making its way to Asia

Malta/Macau – 12th May 2017 – Following the trend of the international expansion of Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) outside of its birthplace, the USA, many believe that this is the next sensation in online gaming. Since Asian markets are poised to pick up DFS in the near future, DFS is expected to be one of the main topics at this year’s Global Gaming Expo Asia (G2E Asia) in Macau (May 16 – 18).

DFS games enable players to create fantasy teams made up of professional athletes, join or create leagues/contests, and earn points based on the actual statistical performance of the professional athletes in real-world competitions. Players pay an entry fee in order to participate, which funds monetary prizes and creates revenue for DFS providers.

The number of DFS players is expected to grow exponentially over the next few years, with around 50 percent of them forecast to come from the millennials’ market by 2020. How will the gaming and sports sector adapt its offerings and how are regulations in Asia evolving to take this product into account? This is one of the questions that will be discussed by Valery Bollier, CEO at Oulala, in a panel entitled ”Growth of fantasy sports and its impact on other industries”. The session, which will be part of the iGaming Summit, is scheduled to take place on Thursday, May 18th at 9:10am (UTC+8) at the Venetian Macau.

”G2E Asia is a key event, especially for European companies because it is the door to Asia, a growing market offering numerous stimulating perspectives for the future,” said Bollier prior to the conference. ”In Oulala’s case, it is even more important. We are the first company to successfully adapt Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS), an American concept, to meet the international demand.”

Poker sales at 3 year high, confirm Project

Sales of poker themed, low stake gaming machines, are at a three year high, according to market data from Project. The UK’s leading creator of poker-based gaming machines, whose association with the genre dates back over a decade, is reporting robust sales figures across its poker range, led by demand for its latest models, Jacks or Better and Free Hands Poker.

Project Managing Director, Tony Boulton, said: “We have always treated the poker player as a separate segment of the market with its’ own motivations and requirements from the machine playing experience. The majority of high street AGCs have at least one of our portfolio of poker machines on their gaming floor and we estimate there are somewhere in the region of 3,000 poker games still out there and performing well. The fact that sales are at a three year high, reflects the appetite for new games and the enduring appeal of poker to what is, a unique segment of the player base.”

Reflecting on the poker genre and the way in which operators can benefit from its popularity, Tony Boulton added: “We are finding that operators are replacing their older pokers, some of which date back a decade, with new products and seeing strong income benefits as a consequence. Poker represents a differentiated income stream which means that the revenue it attracts is new to a business and not derived as a result of cannibalisation or the substitution of existing spend.”

Free Hands Poker, which was launched by Project last year, maximises on the popularity of games within games by offering  ten, free, quick fire hands on a random basis. Once the hands have been played  wins are accumulated, enabling the player to gamble to a jackpot value which is dependent on the stake. Project’s in depth knowledge of the motivations of poker players has identified the importance they place on decision making and being involved in the game play.

The WSOP ‘Calling The Clock’ rule change: A view from the rail

The World Series of Poker changes the rules for Calling The Clock, and Lee Davy reaches out to the best players in the business to seek opinion while also chiming in with one of his own.

I know we all want to be Eckhart Tolle, wandering slowly through nature noticing the hum that emanates off the flap of a butterfly wing, and that’s a good thing. But when it comes to poker the Eckhart Tolle way of viewing the world doesn’t quite cut the mustard.

We like our poker fast.

Bish, bash, bosh.

Pokerography: The five regrets of the dying

In this week’s Pokerography series, Lee Davy, takes a look at Bronnie Ware’s classic, The Top Five Regrets of the Dying, through the lens of the poker world.

Matt Berkey has won and lost millions playing in the biggest live cash games in Las Vegas. But the live cash arena wasn’t where he first earned his stripes. Those were stitched in during an online MTT stretch that created his first serious bankroll.

Berkey woke up each morning, fired up as many MTT tables as he could muster, and played for 12-15 hours straight, six to seven days a week, to build up a roll of $250,000.

Most people would be happy to see their account balance reach $250,000; not Berkey. Talking about those heady days, Berkey told me they ranked amongst the most miserable days of his life. And as he spoke, I couldn’t help think about Bronnie Ware’s book: The Top Five Regrets of The Dying.

Aussie pol defends comments equating gambling with chocolate

An Australian politician isn’t backing away from controversial comments likening problem gambling behavior to excessive chocolate intake.

Australia is awash with video poker (pokies) machines, with an estimated 200k pokies scattered across casinos, pubs and clubs. Pokies are considered a primary source of the nation’s ranks of problem gamblers and various proposals have been put forth to limit pokies-related harm, including pre-commitment technology that allows punters to set spending limits in advance.

More recently, the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) has been considering a Greens Party proposal that would impose a daily $250 ‘cash out’ limit on eftpos (debit card) terminals in clubs that also offer pokies. The eftpos terminals were introduced in 2014, shortly after the ACT imposed a similar withdrawal limit on clubs’ automated teller machines (ATM).

On Thursday, the ACT’s Liberal party’s gambling spokesman Mark Parton rose in the Assembly to criticize the Greens plan. Parton said clubs depend on punters being able to get cash for purposes other than gambling and begged his fellow pols “to exercise tolerance and refrain from using blunt force.”
