MGM uses McCain letter vs. Connecticut tribal casino

MGM Resorts has found an ace that could possibly turn the tide in their favor and stop the tribes from building a casino in Connecticut.

The trump card that MGM Resorts is dangling to stop Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan tribes is no other than the new letter from U.S Republican Sen. John McCain, according to The CT Mirror report.

On Tuesday, McCain prodded Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke to disavow an advisory letter that the Obama administration issued to the two tribes. The advisory letter, according to the report, indicated that their proposal would not jeopardize existing compacts with Connecticut.

For MGM, McCain’s letter is a timely development since disavowing Obama’s advisory letter will weaken Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan’s argument that a new casino off tribal lands would jeopardize more than $260 million in annual revenue sharing the tribes now pay to Connecticut.

Disney backed initiative to restrict Florida gambling

Disney Worldwide Services, which claims to make dreams come true, has helped dash the wishes of many to have an expanded gambling in the state of Florida.

Financial data posted on the state Division of Elections website showed that Disney worked silently in order to prevent gambling expansion in Florida – pouring thousands of dollars to the political committee “Voters in Charge” on April 3, 2017.

In all, the committee raised $287,675 in April, with $250,000 coming from Disney Worldwide Services and $30,000 from the Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association. It spent $140,709, with $103,792 going to the firm National Voter Outreach, Inc. for petition gathering.

According to the group’s information on Facebook, Florida political committee Voters in Charge is sponsoring a ballot initiative “to give Florida voters, not politicians, the exclusive right to approve or disapprove casino gambling.”

888Poker unveils new mission to ‘Take Back The Game.’

888Poker, the world’s second largest online poker room, has unveiled a new mission to ‘Take Back The Game’ spearheaded by a new TV ad and #Buzzkill social media promotion, but is it enough?

I have to offload my shame.

When I was younger, I took my son to Blockbuster Video so he could rent a video game. It was one of my favourite places to visit; like a zoo but with movies instead of animals.

I remember thinking how cutting edge they were when they began renting video games as well as movies. It allowed you a trial before buying them, and it was perfect for someone who had video game crazed children.

Casino Control Commission green lights Caesars restructuring plan

Caesars Entertainment Operating Co. (CEOC) may now proceed with its plan to lease operations of their properties after getting a nod from New Jersey’s Casino Control Commission (CCC).

Press of Atlantic City reported that the state’s casino regulator gave CEOC, which owns Bally’s and Caesars Atlantic City, the go ahead with the implementation of the Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization, hoping that the bankrupt main unit will bounce back to profitability.

The CEOC’s restructuring plan paved the way for the split of the cash-strapped casino operator into two entities: a casino management firm and a real estate investment trust (REIT) to own the land on which CEOC’s casinos stand.

In approving CEOC’s restructuring plan, CCC chairman and CEO Matthew B. Levinson said they want to help Atlantic City casinos to become strong and financially stable.

Sheldon Adelson pitches Rio mayor on $8b casino

Las Vegas Sands boss Sheldon Adelson recently made a trip to Brazil to pitch an $8b casino project to the mayor of Rio de Janeiro.

On Wednesday, Brazilian media outlet O Globo reported that Adelson (pictured, going native) and members of a Sands scouting party had popped in on Rio’s Mayor Marcelo Crivella, who claimed the reliably cranky billionaire was in town to discuss “tourism.”

The subterfuge regarding Adelson’s visit is necessary because Brazil has yet to legalize casino gambling. Despite years of negotiations, two competing gambling expansion bills in the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate have yet to be merged, as the Senate bill remains stuck in committee.

Adelson has long spoken of Brazil as a country Sands was eyeing, calling the country a “potentially very good opportunity” during Sands’ Q4 2015 earnings call, although he expressed some reservations regarding the country’s economy. Adelson reportedly told Crivella that Rio needed some infrastructure upgrades, including more 4- and 5-star hotels.

Gaming Player Index joins GPI & Hendon Mob as poker meets gaming

The Hendon Mob and the Global Poker Index have a new pal as Alex Dreyfus looks to broaden his horizons and bring poker closer to the $108 billion video gaming industry by creating the Gaming Player Index.

While shopping for baby toys, I saw a Fisher Price telephone toy. I had one; my son had one – I think everyone in the world has had one. I unpacked it and started pulling it along the floor. The eyes were rolling up and down, and my seven-month-old daughter began to crawl for the first time as she chased it (like a slug) across the floor.

After feeling guilty for teasing her, I gave it to her. She smashed it about a bit. She tasted it. And then I showed her how it works. I dialled an imaginary phone number, put the earpiece to my ear and pretended to talk to someone.

And then it hit me.

Champions League review: Real Madrid will play Juventus in the final

The holders Real Madrid will face Juventus in the final of the Champions League after overcoming their noisy neighbours on aggregate despite losing 2-1 in the second leg.

On 7 February 2015, Real Madrid took a bus ride to the Vincente Calderon and was hammered by four goals to nil. And it’s for that reason that the ardent Atletico Madrid fans believed their side could overturn a three-goal deficit and make it to their third final in four seasons.

Real Madrid, cushioned by a first leg Cristiano Ronaldo hat-trick, had not conceded two goals in the first 20-minutes of a Champions League clash in over a decade, but that’s exactly what happened in this pulsating encounter.

The usually defensive-minded Atletico went right for the jugular, brachial, and titty twister, ransacking the Real goal peppering shots as if they were coming out of one of those tennis cannon things.

PokerStars crown another millionaire; SCOOP to raise money for REG

PokerStars has crowned another millionaire after a German online player won $1m playing Spin & Go, and the Spring Championship of Online Poker aims to reduce suffering in the world with Raising For Effective Giving pledge.

If I learned anything when I was younger through thousands of hours watching sport on TV, it was the undeniable fact that the Germans won everything.

Why should poker be different?

PokerStars has done it again. The largest online poker room this side of my garden shed has changed someone’s life forever by turning them into a millionaire and yes the winner was German.
