Live MTT Poker News: Battikha; Gruissem & Derwiche pick up tour wins

A brief round-up of the most impressive live tournament scores from both the partypoker LIVE Canada Grand Prix and the PokerStars Championship Monte Carlo including wins for Cassidy Battikha, Philipp Gruissem, and Imad Derwiche.

Let’s begin with news from Canada where the partypoker LIVE brand is currently kicking ass. The Playground Poker Club in Montreal is acting as host for both the Grand Prix and the Million, and the results for the first event are in the books.

The CAD $220 buy-in partypoker LIVE Grand Prix Canada afforded players the opportunity to get involved in the Day 1 action both online, live or both. The three-day event was a resounding success attracting 2,570 entrants, and with 38 players returning for the final day it was the experienced pro-Mike Leah who was in pole position.

Leah made the final table as one of two players who was still involved in the Golden Chip promotion offering a CAD $20,000 bonus to the player who lasted the longest. Leah’s private duel was with Kevin Zeidler, and for once Leah lost when he exited in fourth. Zeidler took third after a three-way deal left him with CAD $53,450 & the CAD $20,000 bonus.

Betting on Football 2017 offers more than just business experience

Betting on Football isn’t considered the largest sports betting industry event today for nothing.

The three-day conference, organized by SBC Events, is known for bringing together an impressive line-up of world-class speakers and having a massive turnout—year after year—of senior industry delegates. But aside from an extensive range of content, Betting on Football 2017 has also stacked up unique networking features and competitions for the event at Stamford Bridge (May 3-5).

For Betting on Football’s fourth iteration, organizers have set up networking opportunities in and around the exhibition floor, stadium tours, as well as two high-level parties.

Wednesday evening features the first of the two official networking parties at the Kensington Roof. Aside from networking drinks, the party will also screen the week’s second Champions League semi-final between Monaco and Juventus. The second official networking party will offer drinks and Europa League football at ‘Under the Bridge,’ the famous London club below Stamford Bridge.

Gamblit expands skill games presence in Nevada casinos

Skill-based games developer Gamblit Gaming has made further inroads into Nevada’s land-based casino market via product launches with MGM Resorts and Caesars Entertainment.

On Tuesday, Gamblit announced that its first two skill-based games had officially gone live in the LEVEL UP lounge at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Players can check out two games – Gamblit Poker and Cannonbeard’s Treaure – currently available on Gamblit’s Model G game tables.

MGM Grand president Scott Sibella said the addition of Gamblit’s products was part of the casino’s mission to keep its “gaming experiences fresh and exciting for our guests.” Gamblit’s chief marketing officer Darion Lowenstein praised the LEVEL UP lounge, calling it “a perfect fit for Gamblit’s high-energy, arcade-like gaming experiences.”

This marks the second Vegas launch for Gamblit, who unveiled the same two games at Caesars Entertainment’s Planet Hollywood casino in March. That 30-day field trial apparently went smoothly enough, as Gamblit announced on Wednesday that its Model G tables were now available at Caesars’ northern Nevada casino Harrah’s Lake Tahoe.

UK bookies crow ‘I told you so’ after MPs FOBT report spanked

UK bookmakers are saying ‘I told you so’ after a parliamentary report that criticized the fixed-odds betting terminals (FOBT) in high street betting shops was found to have breached parliamentary standards.

In January, the Association of British Bookmakers (ABB) called for “an urgent inquiry” into a FOBT report compiled by the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) that called for a reduction in the maximum stake available on FOBTs from its current £100 to just £2, as well as a reduction in the current maximum of four FOBTs per shop.

The ABB took issue with the report in part because the APPG had relied on funding from numerous organizations that stood to benefit from FOBT curbs, including operators of UK casinos, arcades, adult gaming centers and pubs, as well as the manufacturers of the gaming devices that these other venues offer to customers.

On Tuesday, Kathryn Hudson, the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards, released the findings of her investigation. It includes a letter to ABB CEO Malcolm George stating that the APPG’s report was guilty of four separate breaches of transparency rules, including its failure to disclose that the APPG had received eight months’ worth of free secretariat services from Interel, a public relations firm working for the ABB’s gaming rivals.
