Compliance Briefing: Malta lays out the financial consequences of GDPR breaches

Conference takes place on 27th June 2017 in St Julian’s Malta

The EU’s new General Data Protection Regulatory framework comes into force next spring and is bound to be one of the key topics on everyone’s mind at the upcoming Compliance Briefing: Malta conference.

Failure to conform to the new regulations will result in a huge financial burden on small and large companies alike. The current Data Protection Act (DPA) details that a monetary penalty notice of up to £500,000 can be charged to organisations for serious breaches. This will increase dramatically in 2018 – forcing companies to reassess their data security to ensure that they are GDPR compliant.

Sky Racing World enhances Australian racing product for North America

Major graphics upgrade to Australian simulcast racing content is accompanied by partner TVG’s expanded Australian coverage with Sky Racing (Australia) broadcaster Jason Witham

Louisville, KY. June 2017 – Sky Racing World, the Louisville, Kentucky-based distributor of Southern Hemisphere horse-racing content to the Americas and subsidiary of Australian wagering operator Tabcorp, has integrated new graphics for its simulcast Australian horse-racing content to North American advance depositing wagering (ADW) sites, tracks and OTBs. The company has also expanded its partnership with TVG, the racing TV network and ADW, which will see Jason Witham from Tabcorp’s Sky Racing (Australia) broadcaster cover Australian races live on-track for TVG on Friday nights EDT/PDT.

In addition to TVG.com, more than 70 other North American ADWs as well as over 400 tracks and off-track betting outlets (OTBs) provide their customers with Australian simulcast horse-racing from Sky Racing World. These partners will benefit from the company’s latest update to the graphics for its simulcast content, which feature a sophisticated new look and state-of-the-art animations while highlighting the Australian track name.

Every simulcast Australian race will show jockey silks and jockey name for each runner and also include the recent form of all competing horses, with this information scrolling across the screen via a parade bar. The update also enables bettors to better analyze races through a market order display and embedded predictor data on each horse’s winning chances.

Irish war cry returns as Belmont favorite after skipping preakness

Saturday’s 149th running of the Belmont Stakes will certainly lack intrigue considering both horses who won the first two legs of the Triple Crown will not be competing. However, that has put Irish War Cry in a favorable position as +300 chalk in a 12-horse field, with only one entering all three Triple Crown races.

Lookin At Lee is the lone horse in the Belmont who has previously ran in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes, and he is listed as the +550 third choice behind Irish War Cry and Epicharis (+350). After finishing second in the Kentucky Derby and fourth in the Preakness, Lookin At Lee is still searching for his first victory of the year.

Epicharis is coming over from Japan to run his first Triple Crown race following an impressive run that has seen him win three of his last four races by a combined 25 lengths and finish second in the other one. He was eligible to run in the Kentucky Derby after winning the Hyacinth Stakes but decided to rest up for the Belmont instead.

BetVictor decides online poker just isn’t worth it

Gibraltar-based online gambling operator BetVictor has become the latest company to conclude that online poker is no longer worth its while.

A quick load of the BetVictor website will reveal any number of sports and casino betting options, but poker is nowhere to be found, having undergone a Stalinistic purge from the company’s official history as of Wednesday.

BetVictor broke the news to its customers via an email thanking them for their patronage over the years. The company followed that up with a frequently asked questions notice, which was first revealed by the Krackedkings poker affiliate forum. BetVictor’s poker players were told they could either withdraw their account balance by June 7 or transfer their funds to BetVictor’s Sports/Casino wallet.

Non-cashable points are now worthless but unused tickets were redeemed for cash upon closure of the poker site. Rakeback customers were assured they would receive a payment on June 7 for all funds generated over the first week of June. Affiliates were promised that their commissions would be paid as normal following submission of the necessary invoices.

Portugal gov’t claws back half of online gambling market revenue

Portugal’s regulated online gambling market may have had a hard time attracting interest from operators, but the government is ensuring it’s getting its pound of flesh regardless.

Portugal issued its first official online gambling license to French operator Betclic Everest in May 2016. Since then, only five more licenses have been issued, and some of those have been issued to the same operators for different online gambling products. There are currently only four separate companies legally plying their trade online in Portugal.

Last week, the Serviço Regulação e Inspeção de Jogos do Turismo de Portugal (SRIJ) regulatory body issued its first official quarterly report on how its online market is faring. The report covers not only the first three months of 2017 but also the second half of 2016.

The SRIJ says its licensees – two sports betting, three casino, one poker – generated revenue of over €31m in Q1 2017. That’s 13.7% higher than the €27m that five licensees earned in Q4 2016, which was itself up from €24m that three licensees earned in Q3. In its first 10 months of existence, Portugal’s regulated market has generated revenue of €82.2m.
