WSOP review: Wins for a tough fish and a restauranteur

In this World Series of Poker round-up, we bring you news of victories in the $10,000 Pot-Limit Hold’em Championship by a tough fish and a surprise win in the $2,500 Omaha Hi-Lo 8-or-Better/Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo or Better Mix from a restauranteur with zero cashes.

Some people win a World Series of Poker (WSOP) gold bracelet and sit there in front of the cameraman, gold in hand, shaking, with all of the liquids running out of them.

Tommy Le is not that man.

The man who professes to be nothing more than a tough fish is all business. Before this win, Le had visited the final table of WSOP Pot-Limit Omaha (PLO) events on five separate occasions, including a superb 2016 showing finishing runner-up finish to Jens Kyllonen in the $25k event, and a third place finish in the very event he won a few days ago.

WSOP results: Charania the last of the vintage Triple Crown winners?

Two World Series of Poker bracelet victories for Chicago including a Triple Crown win for Mohsin Charania, and a win in Stud for Tom Koral.

The timing couldn’t have been more perfect.

Talking to Mohsin Charania about the future of the Triple Crown he had this to say about prestige in poker.

“I don’t think anyone says, “Oh man, I would rather win a $1,500 NL WSOP bracelet event for $390k instead of a $5k side event somewhere that no one’s heard of for $410k for example.”

Mark Cuban to take part in Unikrn ICO; ESIC and MGA agree MOU

Shark Tank star, Mark Cuban, has announced plans to take part in Unikrn’s initial coin offering, weeks after declaring that Bitcoin was a bubble, and the Esports Integrity Coalition and the Malta Gaming Association agree on a Memorandum of Understanding.

Mark Cuban may believe that Bitcoin is in the midst of a bubble, but that hasn’t stopped him putting his considerable weight behind Unikrn’s Initial Coin Offering (ICO) scheduled to hit cyber shelves in late August.

The Dallas Mavericks owner recently tweeted that Bitcoin was in a bubble, but didn’t question the value of cryptocurrency, only the valuation. It was CoinDesk that first announced Cuban’s plans to take place in the ICO, with the billionaire responding High Risk, High Reward.

Created in 2014, Unikrn is a Seattle-based esports betting platform that offers real money betting in the UK and Australian markets. Within the first year, they raised $10m in funding from the likes of Ashton Kutcher, Shari Redstone, Elisabeth Murdoch, and Mark Cuban,

Macau casinos extend winning streak but growth fails to meet analyst targets

Macau casinos continued their winning streak in June but analysts expressed concerns that regulators could be jeopardizing the casino hub’s recovery.

Figures released Saturday by Macau’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) showed the world’s top casino destination generated gaming revenue of just under MOP 20b (US $2.49b) in the month of June, representing a 25.9% improvement over the same month last year.

The result extends Macau’s year-on-year revenue improvement streak to 11 months, and the margin of June’s improvement is the highest yet recorded during that nearly year-long streak. In fact, it’s the highest monthly year-on-year gain recorded since February 2014, after which the market began its two-year-plus gaming revenue decline.

But June’s total was 12% below what casinos reported in May, and the second-lowest total reported this year after January’s MOP 19.2b. Analysts had also expected June’s year-on-year increase to be closer to 30%, leading some observers to fret that increased regulatory oversight could be tempering Macau’s recovery.
