Waterfront Philippines allocates $32M for casino facelift
Philippine-listed casino operator Waterfront Philippines Inc. has earmarked a total of PHP1.65 billion (US$32.6 million) for the facelift of its four properties, including the firm’s three casino hotel.
In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, Waterfront announced that it is embarking on a major renovation of its facilities as it targets to increase its revenues by 10 percent.
First in the list of its planned renovations is the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino. Waterfront estimated that the cost of the renovation of its Cebu hotel, which will start in early 2018, is PHP400 million (US$7.9 million).
As for Waterfront Airport Hotel and Casino Mactan, the firm has allocated PHP450 million (US$8.8 million) for the renovation program. Works are forecast to begin in mid-2018.

Having started his career as a warehouse worker and teacher, Mathias mastered digital skills and subsequently founded several companies and startups. Alongside entrepreneurship, he got engaged in politics and became a member of the Committee on the Constitution of the Swedish Riksdag (the National Parliament) in 2012.

XLMedia acquires remaining minority shareholding in Marmar Media Ltd.
XLMedia (AIM: XLM), a leading provider of digital performance marketing, is pleased to announce that it has entered into an agreement to acquire the remaining minority shareholding in Marmar Media Ltd. (“Marmar”) (the “Acquisition”) that the Company does not already own for a total consideration of approximately US$2.4 million.
The total consideration, payable in cash, is comprised of US$2.25 million, to be paid immediately, and an additional amount representing 46 per cent. of Marmar’s distributable net profits for the period from 1 January 2017 to 31 July 2017 (less an amount representing working capital commitments).
XLM acquired a 54 per cent. stake in Marmar, which specializes in performance based marketing across the app, software and entertainment verticals, in June 2015 and is now acquiring the remaining 46 per cent. via the Company’s wholly owned subsidiary, Webpals Holdings Ltd., acquiring both of Gindawii Holdings Ltd. and Farmland Holdings Ltd., companies wholly owned by Marmar founders, Mr. Oren Avidor and Mr. Gal Avidor (together, the “Vendors”).
In the year ended 31 December 2016 Marmar generated revenues and profit before tax of US$11.7 million and US$2.5 million respectively. The Acquisition of the remaining 46 per cent. stake in Marmar is expected to enable XLM to further strengthen the Group’s media channel growth, enable the Group to extract additional synergies, run an increased number of campaigns and continue the diversification of the Group’s revenue and customer base.

Slovakia adds new operators to online gambling blacklist
Six more operators have been added to Slovakia’s blacklist of online gambling domains, which the authorities said has been serving local punters without government approval.
In mid-July, the Slovak Financial Administration came out with a list of 10 naughty online gambling operators, including familiar faces like 888 Holdings, Bet365, Bet-at-Home, Bwin, William Hill and 1xbet, along with Curacao-licensed Eatsleepbet.com as well as Malta-licensed LVbet.com and Kajot-casino.com.
The list, however, has grown to 16 at the end of July, according to Slovak news outlet Zive.sk.
Slovakian authorities want the operators to take down the websites within 10 days, before they were issued a judicial order that will oblige the ISPs to block the sites based on DNS. Those who will not follow will have to pay a penalty of up to €500,000 ($587,107).
Law panel solicits cricket board’s views on legalized betting in India
The Law Commission of India wants to hear the views of state associations on the issue of legalized betting in the country before it submits its recommendations.
The country’s top law panel was tasked by the Supreme Court to review the possibility of making sports betting and gambling in casinos legal following the recommendations made by the Lodha Committee to legalize betting through an enacted legislation.
On Tuesday, ESPN reported that Law Commission secretary Sanjay Singh sent a letter to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), requesting its member associations “to forward the views of the association” on the issue of betting as soon as possible.
Singh said the law panel, which has been seeking stakeholders’ observations and suggestions, “considers that the views of your association will be valuable in formulating its recommendations on betting.”

American Jordan Spieth has won every major golf tournament except the PGA Championship. Great Canadian Gaming venture snaps up lucrative OLG deal to operate Toronto casinos
Shares in Great Canadian Gaming Corp. (GCGC) soared on news that it won a bid to run three gambling facilities in Ontario.
On Tuesday, the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation announced that it has selected Ontario Gaming GTA LP (OGGLP), a joint venture between GCGC and private equity firm Brookfield Business Partners LP, to run three casinos in the Toronto area.
The announcement caused Great Canadian shares to spike 18 percent to finish the day at a record C$30—the biggest one-day gain since 2001. Stock in Brookfield was also up 7.8 percent, closing the day at C$38.05.
Under the deal, OGGLP will have the exclusive right to operate OLG’s assets for a minimum of 22 years, including more than 4,000 slot machines, 60 table games and more than 2,200 staff, according to a statement released by the two companies.
