Nomura: Japan to reap $7B from two major IRs

Japan-based credit debt watcher Nomura has painted a rosy picture for the Japanese casino industry should the island nation decide to allow two major integrated resorts to operate.

Nomura made a forecast in its Friday’s note that the Japanese casino industry could generate US$7 billion worth of gross gaming revenue from at least two major integrated resorts.

The analysts from Nomura believe that Yokohama and Osaka are the perfect spots to construct an integrated resort due to its significant local population of nine million; sizeable inbound tourist flow of 10 to 18 million annually; and strong infrastructure support.

At present, the Japanese government is still on the lookout for a viable city that can host an integrated resort. It will be holding public hearings in nine cities related to the Japan casino industry’s framework, excluding Yokohama.

Data from the Singapore Tourism Board Showed that there was an increase of tourism receipts in the island nation in the first three months of 2017 but they were not actually gambling.

The agency pointed out that the tourism receipts got a boost from increased food and beverage, shopping and accommodation spending, which rose by approximately 15 percent year-on-year to SGD6.4 billion (US$4.7 billion).

Focusing on the online gambling affiliate industry in sports, casino, bingo and poker we can see that there is a similarity. Meaning that it has the same ultimate objectives which are applied across all of the products. With this said, there are different challenges that sports affiliates can face compared with gaming affiliates.

Seasonality plays an important role with sports-focused affiliates as the demand for content relating to a particular sport or event can affect the influx of new customers, depending on their sports preference and the updates they are providing to their users during these times. This applies to both affiliates and operators.

Being focused on the a sports niche you are basically set to a yearly calendar which shapes your work as a sports betting affiliate or sports betting operator during the year, and you are working to more rigid dates.
