Mayweather fails to bet $400K on McGregor slugfest

Floyd Mayweather Jr. may have managed to notch his 50th career victory with a 10th-round TKO over Conor McGregor, but the undefeated world champion has failed to do one thing Saturday night: bet on his fight.

The five-division boxing champion, who is known for betting big bucks on sporting events, earlier promised to place wager—on himself, of course—on his match against the UFC star. And that he did, according to ESPN’s David Purdum.

Purdum quoted multiple sources who said that “Mayweather attempted to place a $400,000 bet on the fight ending under 9.5 rounds at -200 odds” at a sportsbook at the M Resort in Las Vegas several hours before the fight took place.

However, “there were concerns over the legality of a fighter betting on anything other than a straight win,” which prompted Mayweather to wager instead on himself winning by a knockout. But because he had to wait to place a wager, a reportedly “pissed” Mayweather “left without getting the bet down.”

Right or wrong? The flipside of the Patrick Leonard angle

Lee Davy shares his thoughts on the controversy surrounding a hand played between Patrick Leonard and Luigi Andrea Shehadeh during the PokerStars Championship Barcelona.

What do you think of Patrick Leonard?

When I heard on the poker grapevine that he was angle shooting during his deep run in the PokerStars Championship Barcelona Main Event, my gut reaction was that people were wrong.

If you place Leonard in a fMRI machine and look closely, you will see his cerebral blood flow hurrying poker chips around his brain. Poker is his life, and unlike most of his peers, Leonard is always prepared to open his heart and talk honestly about the way the game makes him feel.

Did you hear about the soccer star, warehouse worker and the Kaiser?

The PokerStars Championship Barcelona comes to a close with a trio of tales featuring a soccer star, warehouse worker, and a Kaiser.

All too often there is a lacuna in our poker narrative. It’s the fairy tale, the goddam fairytale. There aren’t enough damsels in distress, hardly anybody has hair long enough to drop outside of a castle window, and warehouse workers don’t win million dollar prizes after qualifying online for $200.

But the PokerStars Championship Barcelona was different.

The scriptwriters nailed it.

PokerStars sponsor StreamBoat2; six lucky punters to book a berth

Bill Perkins‘s StreamBoat 2 picks up an impressive sponsor who gives six punters a chance to win a berth on the yacht when it sets sail from the Caribbean island of St Thomas.

“Love, exciting and new. Come on board, we’re expecting you.”

In the 80s, those words jumped out of my idiot box tearing at my eardrums, as the image of the Pacific Princess cut away my cornea.

It was Sunday.

Neptune Group proposes name change as junket biz dries up

Macau casino junket operator Neptune Group is betting that a corporate rebrand will help reverse the group’s sagging fortunes.

On Friday, the Neptune Group Ltd informed the Hong Kong Stock Exchange that it planned to change the English language name of the company to Rich Goldman Holdings Ltd. The company also proposed changing its Chinese name from “海王國際集團有限公司” to “金粵控股有限公司”.

The rebranding proposal is subject to approval by Neptune shareholders at an extraordinary general meeting, the date of which has yet to be determined.

The company says the rebrand is warranted due to its view that the Neptune name “does not reflect the diversity of businesses conducted by the Group.” The statement notes that while Neptune is still receiving profit streams from casino junket operations, it now “focuses more on its money lending business and management and operation of hotel business.”
