China launches fresh crackdown on ‘harmful’ online info
China’s cybercops have launched a new crackdown on ‘negative and harmful’ information that will inspect all corners of the internet for traces of illegal gambling and other official no-nos.
On Thursday, the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) announced the commencement of a new six-month fight against ‘harmful information’ that the authorities in Beijing don’t want Chinese citizens to stumble across online.
The CAC’s definition of ‘harmful’ online content includes anything involving gambling, pornography, fraud, violence, threats, abuse, rumors and superstition. The CAC intends to “vigorously” monitor compliance by websites, mobile apps, forums, instant messaging services, live-streaming platforms and (presumably) schoolchildren passing paper notes to each other during classes.
The CAC said it expects all internet operators to “fulfill their responsibilities” during this campaign, while warning that “anyone who allows illegal behavior to go free will not be tolerated but be severely punished.”

Hesse warns Germany on federal gambling regulation delays
The German state of Hesse has vowed to go it alone on gambling legislation if a new federal pact can’t be reached by the end of 2019.
Shortly before Christmas, Hesse’s governing coalition of the Christian Democratic Union and Greens parties released their official coalition agreement indicating their priorities for their current term. Among these priorities is ensuring that gambling operations are “finally legally and practically regulated in a coherent manner.”
Hesse’s coalition is giving the rest of the country until the end of this year to approve “satisfactory” gambling regulations. Given the historical futility of this challenge, the Hesse government will reportedly begin preliminary work on its own prospective gambling legislation when its state parliament reconvenes on January 18.
Germany’s gambling market has been one gigantic question mark after German and European Union courts ruled that the 2012 State Treaty on Gambling was legally sketchy. That treaty called for the legalization of online sports betting but put an arbitrary cap on the number of online betting licenses, while refusing to authorize online casino or poker products.

LeoVegas adds Swish payments—they should check out Bitcoin SV
Gamblers aren’t too complicated when you get down to it. They want to play their favorite games, hopefully win a bunch of money, and collect those winnings quickly. With online gambling, the easy part is giving them a game to play, and the much harder part is making the deposit and withdrawals convenient and fast enough to meet player expectations.
LeoVegas, the Swedish mobile gaming company, is hoping to give their customers a faster way to collect those winnings by introducing Swish as a payment provider. The big question though is, why haven’t they cut out the middleman yet by just accepting Bitcoin SV (BSV)?
Let’s start with Swish. In a press release, LeoVegas said their goal is “to offer the ultimate gaming experience for our customers, and we are now making this even better with the launch of Sweden’s fastest deposit method via Swish.”
The press release notes that 6.7 million Swedes, or 63% of the population, currently use Swish. The January 1 re-regulation of the Swedish gambling market allow LeoVegas the opportunity to work with banks and Swish more closely to make this an option.

CFP championship game betting preview & trends
The SEC’s University of Alabama is in Tuscaloosa and the ACC’s Clemson University is in Clemson, South Carolina. The schools are only about 325 miles apart. Yet before the 2015 college football season they had played just once since 1975 (2008).

On Monday night at Levi’s Stadium outside San Francisco, the Crimson Tide and Tigers play in the College Football Playoff for the fourth year in a row and third time in the national championship game. The Tide are 6-point favorites. It’s the first time in college football history two teams have met in a bowl game a fourth straight season.
The College Football Playoff is only in its fifth year so it might be too soon to classify anything as a trend. However, one is working against the Tide – the only school to make all five editions of the playoff. That being the top seed has yet to win it all (neither has a No. 3, but that’s a story for another day).
