Champions League review: Spurs lose in Leipzig, Liverpool leave it late

The UEFA Champions League knockout stage is always where the tournament itself starts properly. That tradition continued across the last two nights of great drama as Spurs departed in sorry style in Germany while Liverpool needed extra time to get past Spanish battlers Atletico Madrid at Anfield.

RB Leipzig 3-0 Tottenham Hotspur (4-0 on aggregate)

Jose Mourinho set up the tie in Germany with an overwhelming sense of realism when he listed the players that Leipzig would have to lose to match the injury-depleted squad with which the Portuguese manager had at his disposal against Leipzig.

With Spurs employing a false nine in Dele Alli, RB Leipzig had every opportunity to defend in numbers, press in packs and exploit all the gaps in the North London outfits backline. Exploit them they assuredly did, with Marcel Sabitzer scoring twice in a first half that tore Tottenham’s hopes to shreds.

Detroit casinos report revenue increases, prepare for sports betting

February continued to bring strong revenues to Detroit casinos. The Michigan Gaming Control Board have announced revenues figures for the MGM Grand Detroit, MotorCity Casino and Greektown Casino, and each one is doing pretty well.

In total, the Detroit casinos reported aggregate revenue of $121.7 million for the month, improving year on year by 6.3 percent, and doing 1.5 percent better than the $120 million collected in January. Overall, revenues are up 6.7 percent for the first two months of 2020, when compared to 2019.

MGM Grand Detroit did the best of the three, bringing in a 6.4 percent increase to $52.6 million in revenue. Motorcity and Greektown both saw increases too, the former bringing in $40.5 million for a 4.7 percent improvement, and the latter taking $28.6 million for an 8.3% improvement.

Overall, Michigan was happy with this performance, collecting $9.9 million in gaming taxes. That’s a healthy improvement over the $9.3 million collected last year. In addition, the three casinos paid $14.5 million to the city of Detroit.

ASA warns Profit Accumulator over Instagram ads

Anyone in the gambling industry understands that the act of placing a wager can only really be described as a form of entertainment. Placing bets should never seriously be thought of as a potential career. For muddling that message, Profit Accumulator has received a warning from the U.K.’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA).

Profit Accumulator, who offer match-betting information for a subscription fee, posted two ads that were worth of the warning. On March 22, 2019, they posted to Instagram an image of a customer winning with the hashtags “#makemoney #makingmoney #income #makemoneyfromhome #extraincome #students #sahm #extramoney”. Then on April 11, 2019, another post to The Gram had this caption: “In 1 month I have gone from a person struggling to stay afloat who is worrying about their MOT, bills etc to completely flipping my financial position. Could not have got to this position without match betting and without the guidance of Profit Accumulator”. It also had hashtags that suggesting betting was working from home.

In defense of the ads, Profit Accumulator argued “the purpose of their service was to assist members by taking advantage of free bets and promotions by bookmakers to bet on all outcomes of a potential bet, and therefore ensure profit, amongst other exploitable loopholes.” They also noted that the win in their post was from a customer, and that signing up for their service and following it correctly would nearly guarantee profits for a customer. They admitted though that “they did not consider that the hashtags suggested that the product was an alternative to full-time employment.”

That last part is hard to swallow, considering they used the hash tags #workingfromhome #workingfromhomejobs #workingfromhome in their second post.
