Game developer sues IGT, alleges violation of licensing agreement

Game developer High 5 Games said slot machine giant IGT – International Game Technology violated numerous conditions of a licensing agreement and failed to pay the company royalties from gambling features used on 81 different game titles. In a lawsuit filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Chicago, New York-based High 5 Games said IGT used its licensed game features on some of the manufacturer’s more popular slot machines.

A Las Vegas Valley Water District spokesman told the Las Vegas Sun that a contractor working on a construction project struck the pipeline Wednesday morning. The agency says nearby resorts and commercial properties including the MGM Grand and Monte Carlo both owned by MGM Resorts would get their water from another water line.

Lower trigger for jackpots seen as costly for casinos

A Wall Street gaming analyst calculated that individual casinos could lose roughly $530,000 per year under a proposed Internal Revenue Service change that would lower the reporting rules for casino customer winnings. The suggested move to reduce the trigger from $1,200 to $600 on jackpots for slot machines, keno and table games, was soundly criticized by gaming industry leaders as unnecessary and burdensome.

Rocky Gap owner defends merger with Las Vegas firm

Lakes Entertainment, which owns Rocky Gap Casino Resort near Cumberland, defended its planned $128 million merger with Las Vegas-based Golden Gaming as it announced earnings on Thursday. “The combination of Lakes’ strong balance sheet and our Rocky Gap property, with Golden Gaming’s casinos and distributed gaming platform and taverns, will make this combined company unique in the marketplace,” said Lakes CEO Lyle Berman in a statement.

Strong sources have revealed this week that several parcels of land on the west side of Lower Broadway have come under the control of Wynn Resorts, though the company is likely not interested in doing any further shopping. “Wynn has control of the properties needed to build a Wynn Everett Resort that will meet our five-star standards,” said Robert DeSalvio, president of Wynn Everett.

Bally transaction plays a part in Scientific Games net loss

The last three months of 2014 gave the investment community a partial look at the financial potential of gaming equipment giant Scientific Games Corp. Company CEO Gavin Isaacs said Wednesday it will take a few more quarters to get a better handle on the operation, which purchased slot machine giant Bally Technologies last year. The $5.1 billion acquisition, which was completed on Nov. 21, had a direct impact on Las Vegas-based Scientific Games fourth quarter results.
