Jockeys are being strongly advised to take out individual insurance policies protecting them in the event of a career-ending injury with the Professional Jockeys Association unable to keep funding the scheme which will finish at the end of the month.

Irad Ortiz Jr., one of five jockeys to win two races during the 2020 Breeders’ Cup at Keeneland, won the 18th annual Bill Shoemaker Award at the two-day event, given to the most outstanding jockey.  It was the third consecutive year he won the award.

W.S. Farish’s Royal Flag arrived at the $97,000 Turnback the Alarm Handicap (G3) off of three straight placings against stakes company but prevailed by displaying a late kick to capture the 1 1/8-mile event for fillies and mares at Aqueduct.

Order of Australia was an also-eligible entry for the $2 million FanDuel Breeders’ Cup Mile Presented by PDJF (G1T). After drawing in following a scratch in the main body of the field, he came from the outside to upset the race at 73-1.
