US sports fans in for a lot of betting pitches this fall

US football fans are in for an unprecedented deluge of betting-related broadcasting this fall, from dedicated programs talking odds and lines to endless commercial pitches.

As the clock counts down to a new NFL season – assuming it’s not sacked for a loss by COVID-19 – bettors in states where such activity has been legalized are taking to social media to vent about the inescapable betting-related promos from local licensees.

Some viewers claim at least one, and often more than one, wagering promo features in every single ad break on some sports-focused outlets. The nonstop pitches are causing some viewers to have unfortunate flashbacks to 2015, when today’s betting leaders DraftKings and FanDuel ran (literally) 214 hours’ worth of daily fantasy sports promos in the month of September alone.

Among the more outlandish/irritating spots features Howie Long and Terry Bradshaw, Fox Sports personalities and now brand ambassadors for Flutter Entertainment’s Fox Bet brand. The two released a promo that really needs to be seen to be believed, with lots of shouting, frequent yelling of the word ‘boom’ and more fake lightning than Back to the Future.

World Series ‘Big 50’ event sees million-dollar guarantee doubled

The latest winner of a World Series of Poker bracelet, Huahuan Feng, didn’t just win any WSOP bracelet, he won a ‘Big 50’ bracelet, which meant he only paid $50 to enter the event and took home the top prize of $211,282.

As if that achievement was not astonishing enough, Feng also won a package to the World Series of Poker Europe worth $12,000 – not a bad return for what a cockney might call a ‘bullseye’.

Ploughing through 44,575 other entries, Feng of course didn’t have to eliminate all of them. With a $2 million prizepool instead of the initial $1 million put up as a guaranteed prizepool, there were over 4,000 players in the draw for a Day 2 seat and they included GGPoker ambassador Daniel ‘Kid Poker’ Negreanu, the most successful tournament poker player of all time in Chris Moorman and Jack Salter among others.

While Moorman would be among the many who busted before the money bubble, messrs Salter ($230) and Negreanu ($611) both cashed, along with hundreds of others. Once at the final table, Thailand’s Wade Gillett busted first, in 9th place for $15,302. He was followed by British player Dean Lipscombe, before two Chinese players departed with Xiong Huang (7th for $29,906) and Di Lu (6th for $41,809) both departing.

BMW Championship odds: DJ leads the board

Odds courtesy of OddsShark.com

PGA Tour fans and bettors will be given a treat at this week’s BMW Championship: Tiger Woods playing for a second week in a row for the first time in a year. Because of his health issues and the fact Tiger simply doesn’t financially need to play often on Tour, he hasn’t gone in back-to-back weeks since last August’s Northern Trust and then the BMW Championship.

There’s a bit of an asterisk there, though, as Tiger withdrew after Round 1 of the 2019 The Northern Trust. He teed it up last week in that event at TPC Boston and finished T58 in the first of the three FedExCup playoff events on Tour.

The Top 125 in FedExCup points qualified for The Northern Trust and only the Top 70 advanced to the BMW Championship. The Top 30 after this week move on to the 2019-20 season-finale Tour Championship where everyone would have a mathematical chance of winning the $15 million FedExCup prize.

Miami Dolphins hope fans will help fins bring success to South Florida

The upcoming NFL season is going to be one of the hardest to predict in a very long time. For the average sportbettor who loved to have a flutter on American Football before 2020, the landscape has completely changed. The odds offered for all the major teams look the same, but after the chaos of the opt-out pre-season, an online NFL draft and now the return of fans to stadiums, punters don’t know where to turn for value.

The Miami Dolphins decision to allow Fins fans to come to the season opener in Florida’s Hard Rock Stadium is a controversial one and has attracted criticism from some quarters. But is it the right one? Will it help The Dolphins to success in a season few predict big things for them?

The Miami Dolphins won the Super Bowl in consecutive seasons in 1972 and 1973, but since then have never won it, despite being the only team in NFL history to finish an entire season undefeated in the first of their two Super Bowl victories.

This season, Miami are welcoming 13,000 fans to the Hard Rock Stadium, using social distancing of six feet between fan groups to fill up around 20% of the stadium’s seats with home supporters. Their first game will take place on 20th September against the Buffalo Bills – who won’t have fans in attendance at Orchard Park this season – and Bills coach Sean McDermott isn’t happy that there will be fans present for his team’s visit to South Florida.

Soccer star Ronaldinho finally a free man in Paraguay

The soccer world was shocked several months ago when it was revealed that Ronaldinho, one of the best soccer players to have ever come out of Brazil, had been arrested in Paraguay along with his brother, Roberto de Assis Moreira. Making the issue more perplexing was the reason for his arrest. He had allegedly tried to enter the country on a fake passport, even though he had a legal, valid passport in his possession. The retired Ballon d’Or winner was put in jail and then later released under house arrest. Now, Ronaldinho is a free man once again.

Ronaldinho and his brother were given a suspended sentence of two years by a Paraguayan judge as he approved their release. They are on the hook for $200,000 in fines, but have been allowed to return home to Brazil. According to the attorneys for both, they are relocating to Rio de Janeiro, where they will establish their residency.

In an interview with Paraguayan media outlet ABC Color following his arrest, Ronaldinho asserted, “We were totally surprised to learn that the documents were not legal. Since then, our intention has been to collaborate with the justice system to clarify the facts. From that moment until today, we have explained everything and facilitated everything that has been requested of us. It was a hard blow. I never imagined that I would go through such a situation. All my life I have sought to reach the highest professional level and bring joy to people with my football.”

Ronaldinho had traveled to Paraguay at the request of a casino owner, who asked that he participate in a youth soccer clinic and the inauguration of a casino, as well as to promote his autobiography. Having the soccer phenom’s face tied to anything is always a way to attract publicity; however, the publicity received in this case was most likely not the kind anyone expected. Upon showing their passports as they entered the country, authorities discovered that they were false, and detained Ronaldinho and his brother. They later alleged that they believed the passports to be real before admitting to knowing that they contained erroneous information. Ronaldinho and his brother saw their case expedited through the judicial channels because “they admitted having had official Paraguayan legal documents but of false content and because they litigated in good faith,” according to local prosecutor Marcelo Pecci.
