Calvin Ayre 5 Years

May 25 marks two grand occasions, first, it’s the fifth anniversary of CalvinAyre.com’s official launch as a gambling industry news site and second, it’s the birthday of our founder and namesake Calvin Ayre.

We wanted to take a moment to wish Calvin a happy birthday and a thank you for being a great boss. He celebrated in style this past Saturday with a hundred close friends at our 5-year anniversary party in Vancouver’s Yaletown district. We’ll have a video of the highlights tomorrow.

We wanted to take this opportunity to give thanks to all of the people that helped contribute to CalvinAyre.com over the past five years from hosts to writers to columnists and many people who work behind the scenes.

It’s a long list so bear with me.

Bwin.Party Announce Plans to Close WPTPoker.com June 3

Bwin.party has announced plans to close their WPTPoker skin on June 3 citing plans to focus their online poker efforts on the partypoker and bwin brands.

Players spending their time on WPTPoker.com will have to find a new home. Their cyber doors will shut on June 3, and they will not reopen. The online poker room opened on the partypoker network in 2009, after party acquired the World Poker Tour (WPT) from WPTE. Whilst it never set the world alight, it would have been home to a lot of people.

A letter sent to players explaining the reason for closure cited bwin.party’s desire to concentrate all of their efforts on their two leading brands: partypoker and bwin poker. The content of the letter can be read below in full:

Dear Players,

Premier League Review: Chelsea Champs, QPR, Burnley and Hull Head to the Championship

Lee Davy delivers his quick fire analysis of a 2014/2015 Premier League season that saw Chelsea storm to victory and QPR, Burnley, and Hull drop down to the Championship.

Watching Hull’s insipid goalless draw against Manchester United has to rank as one of the most uninspiring Premier League finales that I have ever witnessed. But it was a microcosm of the entire season: drab, lifeless, and devoid of any real drama.

Chelsea won the title at a canter; Man City, Arsenal and Man Utd found their way into the Champions League, with Hull, Burnley and QPR set to wipe millions off their income statement as they fall into the abyss of the Championship. Anyone remember a team called Wigan?

Here is my quick fire analysis of the 20 teams that were paid to do battle, but only transpired to do my head in.

Another round up of news from the PokerStars Spring Championships of Online Poker: including braces from Luke Schwartz, Mike Watson, and Woody Deck, and Jason Mercier continues to perform brilliantly at the top of the High Leaderboard.

Mike ’SirWatts’ Watson is having a quite marvelous Spring Championships of Online Poker (SCOOP) series. He is currently sitting third in the (H) Leaderboard and third in the (M) Leaderboard after making a series of final table appearances and bagging two titles.

His latest victory came in Event #37: $2,100 (H) Pot-Limit Omaha (PLO) Hi/Lo. 142 entrants created a total prizepool of $284,000, and Watson defeated Team PokerStars Pro Naoya ‘nkeyno’ Kihara in heads-up action to take the first prize of $65,320.

Before this season Watson had failed to win a SCOOP title. Now he has two, with his maiden victory coming in Event #29 $215 (M) PLO Re-Entry, after defeating 228 players to capture the first prize of $58,368.
