Lewis Hamilton Signs £100m Mercedes Deal

Lewis Hamilton has signed a new three-year deal with Mercedes worth an astonishing £100m, making him the highest paid sportsman in Britain.

Lewis Hamilton, 30, has ended months of speculation by agreeing a new three-year deal with Mercedes. His new contract will take him up to 2018, netting him an incredible £1.5m per race.

The announcement was made from the glitz and glamour of Monte Carlo. The numbers add up to over £32m per year, or £640,000 per week, and not a penny of that will head into UK tax coffers as he currently resides the tax exile of Monaco.

The youngest-ever F1 champion will draw a salary worth five-times more than the Daimler-Benz Chairman Dieter Zetsche, and the decision to part ways with Simon Fuller’s XIX management team, ensured that 20% of the deal would not leak out of his pocket. Instead, Hamilton chose to work with his trusted lawyer Sue Thackeray.

G2E Asia 2015 Day 3 Recap

G2E Asia 2015 has officially come to a close and the past three days were an absolute whirlwind. Most delegates seemed impressed with the turnout this year and with the organization of the event, an improvement from last year for sure. Today was a bit slower than day one and day two, but this is to be expected for any gambling industry conference lasting more than several days.

One of today’s most pleasant surprises was the quick appearance of Phil Ivey at the Asia Gaming booth, accompanied by famous Japanese Pornstar Akiho Yoshizawa. Asia Gaming has enlisted poker pro celebs Phil Ivey and Tom Dwan to help promote their Asia-facing “Six Plus Hold’em” poker game and displayed a video featuring both icons, although Ivey’s actual appearance at the expo was completely unexpected.

While cruising the expo hall as we usually do on the last day, we came across an impressive demo of AlfaStreet’s horse racing electronic table game, Royal Derby. The table game provides simulated horse races with results that people bet on, literally a miniature electronic version of the real thing.

We also enjoyed learning about Bingotime’s bingo dual rail drawing machine, one of the company’s innovations on display alongside huge bunches of fresh flowers which initially caught our attention.

Carl Pion: The Visionary Behind Global Poker Link

Lee Davy sits down with Carl Pion, founder of Global Poker Link, a poker network with a social integration, and a man with a lot of plans for the betterment of the poker community.

On the face of it, it’s just a card game, but when you sit down and play that first hand, it becomes so much more. It has a vice like grip with satin hands. You love it. You can’t stop thinking about it.

Carl Pion knows this. His neck has felt the tightness of those same satin hands. Fortunately, for us, Carl Pion is a very smart and inquisitive man. He is on a journey to make sure that we are never too far away from our poker fix.

I sat down with him to talk about his latest project: Global Poker Link.

Nevada approves legislation allowing skill-based, arcade-style slot machines

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval (pictured) has signed a bill that will eventually allow state casinos to offer slot machines that feature a skill-based, arcade-style element and variable payback ratios.

State legislators unanimously approved Senate Bill 9 last week at the behest of the Association of Gaming Equipment Manufacturers (AGEM). The bill calls for the Nevada Gaming Commission to develop regulations on how slots makers can gamify their offering, which they claim is necessary to attract younger generations brought up on interactive video games.

At the time the bill was approved, AGEM executive director Marcus Prater called it a “monumental moment” in the industry’s “overall evolution.” Prater said the slots floor wouldn’t transform overnight but it would give AGEM members the opportunity to “capitalize on radical new gaming concepts and technologies.”

The legislation was the result of a committee study that looked into how technology was changing the face of gaming. Casino operators have been struggling to fill the seats in front of their thousands of slot machines due to older gamblers dying off and younger gamblers finding traditional slots too passive.

California Racetracks Push for Inclusion at Online Poker Summit

California held a joint informational hearing on gambling regulation on Wednesday, but little headway was made to further the cause of online poker in the state. In fact, Senator Isadore Hall, Government Organization (GO) Committee chairman and sponsor of one the four online poker bills introduced this year, was not even present at the meeting. […]

American Pharoah owner accused of welching on $1.65m online gambling debt

The owner of the horse currently vying for Triple Crown honors has been accused of failing to honor a $1.65m online gambling debt.

Ahmed Zayat (pictured), who owns Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner American Pharoah, was sued in March by a Florida man who claims Zayat owes him $1.65m. In a filing with US District Court in New Jersey, Howard Rubinsky says he acted as a “recruiter” for internationally licensed online gambling sites and that Zayat was one of his clients.

Rubinsky was connected with the illegal betting operation run by brothers Michael and Jeffrey Jelinsky, who pled guilty in 2009 to felony bookmaking charges in Nevada. Rubinsky himself pled guilty to illegal transmission of wagering information, money laundering and abetting, but avoided jail time, settling for a three-year probationary sentence.

Rubinsky claims he had a “personal services” contract with Zayat under which he agreed to provide Zayat with “a place to wager.” Rubinsky says he originally hooked Zayat up with Pinnacle Sports but Zayat was banned from the site after winning $2.8m in a short period.

Chris Moorman Claims 25th Triple Crown

American Pharoah may win horse racing’s Triple Crown if he can win the Belmont Stakes next month. But as impressive an accomplishment as that would be, it might just pale in comparison to a poker player who has accomplished the feat 25 times. Chris Moorman won his 25th PocketFives Triple Crown last week, scoring three […]
