Del Marsh reintroduces gambling bill on Alabama’s special session

Sen. Del Marsh reintroduced his gambling legislation during Alabama’s special session on the state’s $200m budget shortfall.

Marsh’s gambling bill, which could pave the way for a lottery and table gaming in Alabama, opposes Gov. Robert Bentley’s tax plan. Both bill were introduced during the regular session that ended in June but neither passes.

Citing the results of the study of Auburn University in Montgomery, Marsh said that implementing a lottery and a Las Vegas style gambling would create $400 million in new revenue for the Alabama General Fund and add 11,000 new jobs for a total $1.2 billion impact. The bill would also call for four casinos in Birmingham, Mobile, at VictoryLandn and at Greenetrack, which can operate table games such as poker and blackjack in addition to electronic bingo.

Marsh’s plan would also establish a gaming commission to regulate the casinos and establish the rules under which they would operate.

Creating an Engaged Culture

Advances in technology, changes in economics, and a shift in the social and demographic talent agenda have presented an array of opportunities to businesses. These varying and complex forces have put pressure on companies and its development of business goals. These changes are not slowing down and in fact, it affects all channels of your organization, and most importantly, your workforce. Employees have to adapt to these changes with agility and sustain their ability to cope and rise to these challenges. How do you attract and retain capable employees as such, anyway?

Ensuring your employees’ stable psychological states and right behaviors despite the complexity of the business environment now and in the future should be a point of focus for every company. This can be achieved by recognizing the importance of employee engagement in your organization.

Employee engagement is often misconstrued as solely organizing group activities by human resources. It is more than surveys or get-togethers! Employees need to be heard, valued and guided, not only for their well-being but also for the organization’s enhanced productivity and financial outcomes.  It is releasing the potential and capabilities of employees, and enriching their psychological and behavioral state, which leads to better work performance.

This can be done by creating a culture of engagement within your organization, one that recognizes the value of the company’s brand and reputation, honor strong leadership, empowering performance, securing the basics, and integrating company practices. Here are the steps:

Poker Lessons From Napoleon Hill: Lesson #1 Desire

Lee Davy dissects the classic Think & Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill and considers how its lessons have lived through the life of a poker player.

What is the starting point of all achievement?

I have a friend who is a professional poker player. His pattern is familiar. He fell in love with the game, played it incessantly, mastered it, found riches, backed a ton of players, squandered riches, his luck turned, and then he was broke.

In any other walk of life this pattern would have broken someone in half like a broomstick carrying a witch that had eaten too much pumpkin pie. Poker can be an addiction caused by pain. This man should have experienced the glory of suffering. But he didn’t. He was saved because he knew the answer to the question. He had lived through its conception. It was deep inside of him; scratching; determined to emerge.

Lotteries are being sold over smartphones

The main lotteries from Colombia take the lead by using technology for distributing their games. Now through smartphones, lottery players can buy their lucky numbers anywhere, anytime.

This corresponds to a trend of games of chance in the world. Digital sales channels are growing exponentially each year (23%) since 2003, thanks to increased penetration of bandwidth, the legislative progress in the major economies of the world and the increase in visibility on television. Now in Colombia (where 6 in 10 people will bet every year), a new channel was created to meet the needs of a new generation of Colombian players who are looking for comfort and immediacy to play.

At lajuega.com, customers can purchase easily and safely any lottery ticket from state operators in Colombia. Through a mobile app and web platform, customers can choose their preferred lottery and number and pay with a debit card issued by any bank in Colombia. The proof of the lottery ticket is registered to the buyer and is sent directly via email, which is a security feature that prevents the loss of the ticket. This implies that the buyer is the only person allowed for claiming the prizes.

LaJuega technology is a project promoted by the Presidency of the Republic through the Entrepreneurship Fund and the Ministry of Technology and Information from Colombia. The idea was born at the Innovation Center of the University of Los Andes.
