In this week’s confessions series Lee Davy talks about a car crash of an interview he heard between James Altucher and Biz Markie before pulling out a few informational gems from the wreckage.

I don’t want it all.

I don’t need enough information to sculpt a bust of blood.

I have the probing eye of a snail. Let me see enough. I know you can twist me into all kinds of uncomfortable positions, and for a short time the listeners will laugh, but keep twisting and there is a feeling of uncomfortableness that makes people shut down.

Italian online sports betting and casino good, poker bad, advert rules worse

Italy’s regulated online gambling market reported healthy gains in sports betting and casino gaming in H1 while poker continued its inexorable decline.

Figures for the first six months of 2015 show overall online gambling revenue rising 9% year-on-year to €398m, thanks mainly to an improving casino vertical, which rose 24% to €153m.

The combination of new betting options and new market entrants (we’re looking at you, Bet365) helped boost online sports betting turnover by 90% to around €1.3b while sportsbook revenue rose 18% to €126m. Meanwhile, the already struggling poker business continued its downward trajectory, falling 15% to €82m.

Figures for the month of June were slightly kinder to the poker vertical, which saw tournament revenue rise 13% to €5.7m, although cash games fell 22% to €6.1m. Sportsbook and casino grew 20% and 22% respectively during the month.

Turkish illegal gambling operators posing as political parties want your vote

Authorities in Turkey have busted more gambling organizers posing as political parties to evade the country’s strict anti-gambling laws.

On Tuesday, Turkish authorities raided an office of the Future Party of Turkey (GTP) in the southern province of Adana after being tipped off that illegal gambling was going on inside. The police were forced to break down the building’s doors with a sledgehammer after repeated efforts to ring the doorbell went unanswered.

For the record, the Adana Police Department had now conducted over 100 raids on the same building, which was previously occupied (in turn) by the Cukurova Labor Union for Workers in the Entertainment and Accommodation Sectors (CEK-IS), the Rise of the Nationalist Will Party (MIY) and the Trust party.

Police have denounced all four organizations as mere fronts for illegal gambling activity. The Trust party was dissolved last year after its premises were raided 44 times. The MIY party was raided 11 times in roughly its first month of existence while the labor union popped its raid cherry in June.
