Avoid falling out with customers at #bofcon

Visitors to next month’s Betting on Football Conference (#bofcon) at the Emirates Stadium can discover the top 5 ways to reduce the number of customer disputes on football betting, thanks to a new session featuring the Independent Betting Adjudication Service (IBAS).

The one-day event, being held on Thursday 10th September, IBAS Managing Director Richard Hayler will reveal the key sources of friction between bookmakers and their customers and, crucially, how to avoid them.

Hayler will also discuss the importance of detail in data to the consumer (such as the pinpoint timing of when goals are scored) and warn against complacency in meeting the Fair and Open requirements of gambling in Great Britain.

Andrew McCarron, of event organisers Sports Betting Community, commented: “The amount of money that operators are investing in commercial relationships with football clubs means it’s even more important that they can keep the customers attracted by those deals happy.

Cracking the eSports Code

The year 2015 has witnessed a skyrocketing profile for the world of competitive video gaming, otherwise known as eSports. Large multi-million dollar tournaments, an infusion of venture capital, and mainstream media coverage has buoyed eSports from best kept secret to worldwide phenomenon. Accordingly, the iGaming industry has taken notice. However, it is a mistake to conceptualize the eSports opportunity with the exact same purview as other major sports, e.g. fútbol or basketball. Here are three trends in eSports that will shape the complexion, and ultimately success, of its marriage with the betting industry.

A new gateway

Since the first video game, Pong, was released in 1972; playing video games has grown from niche to a commonly embraced activity. Studies show over half a billion people play some form of computer or video game at least an hour a day. The trend is more pronounced for those under 18, where 99% of males and 94% of females report playing video games regularly.

Premier League Review: 100% Records For Man City, Man Utd and Leicester

Man City, Man Utd and Leicester City maintain 100% records after the second week of the Premier League season. Liverpool defends their 100% record at home to Bournemouth on Monday.

It was blue, bloody and brilliant.

Manchester City dismantled the champions at the Etihad Stadium to take their perch at the top of the table. City’s three-nil victory over Chelsea was a strong statement from a squad many pundits said were suffering cataracts and collapsed veins. They looked anything but, as the likes of David Silva, Jesus Navas, Raheem Sterling and the brilliant Sergio Aguero ripped Jose Mourinho’s team apart.

The little Argentinean magician could have put City four up in the first 20-minutes: a combination of shoddy finishing and superb goalkeeping by Asmir Begovic stopping that from happening.

The driver in sports media? Wins? Personalities? Nope. Technology and Analytics

The driver in sports media? Wins? Personalities? Nope. Technology and Analytics

This past week Vox Media, whose property SB Nation is one of the most visited sports platforms in the world, announced a $200 million round of funding from NBC Universal. It was the latest move for Vice, whose founder Jim Bankoff now has a company valued at around $850 million and growing.

It is the latest in a growing trend of digital media companies that have been built on back end technology and content, which will in turn drive views and business. Vox joins platforms like Media, Vice, whose sports business both in broadcast and online is growing in leaps and bounds, BuzzFeed, Business Insider and many others who have pulled in venture capital to really expand what they are doing in sports and entertainment. Those numbers have also not been lost on other sports platforms like Bleacher Report, which took in over $100 million from Turner and is fast-becoming that media company’s prime sports content driver, or FanDuel and DraftKings, whose robust offerings in fantasy have made them kings of the hill for now in DFS.

Gone are the days of just drawing eyeballs; now platforms must be able to both monetize and deliver to whatever device is needed for a young and engaged fan base. Vox has long tinkered with the fantasy space, as has NBC Universal. Could this new venture include a deeper dive into DFS, or eventually the lucrative gaming and gambling space led by the cutting edge back-end Bankoff has built? With Yahoo now in the space, can NBCUni be far behind?

It remains to be seen but one thing is for sure. Tech and content keep ratcheting up the dollars for those spending in the space, with the DC based company the latest to reap the benefits.

The Borgata Responds to Ivey’s Baccarat Countersuit; Jungleman Loses $5m

The Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa has responded to Phil Ivey’s edge sorting baccarat countersuit, and Daniel ‘Jungleman’ Cates loses $5m in high stakes cash games in Manila.

Louis C.K once made a great point about sharks, “Do you think that sharks would be embarrassed if they knew we could see their fins? They think they are so slick. Swimming underneath the sea laughing because nobody has any idea they are down there. Yet we are standing there saying there is totally a shark right there.”

When The Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa welcomed Phil Ivey into their ostentatious and grandiose baccarat boudoir they could see his fin. They knew how sharp his teeth were. Yet in their hyperlogical worldview there was no way they were being eaten alive. This had nothing to do with the barbarity of man, and everything to do with the barbarity of the house. The one that always wins. Only it didn’t win on this occasion.

I am, of course, talking about the $9.6m that Ivey and his colleague, Cheng Yin Sun, won, fair and square, whilst playing mini-baccarat at the aforementioned casino during four mouth-watering trips that took place during 2012.

Isaac Haxton Speaks Out About NoelHayes Account and Christian Lusardi Sentenced for Borgata Counterfeit Chip Scandal

Team PokerStars Online member Isaac Haxton admits he knew Brian Hastings was using the NoelHayes account, and Christian Lusardi sentenced for Borgata counterfeit chips scandal.

Isaac Haxton has admitted that he is the representative of PokerStars who knew that Brian Hastings was playing on the infamous NoelHayes account on PokerStars, allegedly using a VPN whilst playing from the US.

Responding to the same thread on 11 August, Haxton apologized to the 2+2 community for taking so long to respond, but explained his reasons were because the situation was ‘under review’ by his employer, PokerStars.

Wisconsin Judge Agrees Poker is a Game of Skill; But Still Illegal

A Wisconsin Judge agreed that over the long run poker is a game of skill, but still refused to legalize it referring to case law that is over 50 years old.

Poker is a game of skill; but an illegal one.

That’s the summing up of a Wisconsin Judge, during four minutes that would have made Pontius Pilate proud, after a number of poker players had spent a year, and $10,000 of money not won playing poker in the state, to try and legalize it.

Where I live it’s illegal to play poker for money. So we hide the money under the table in the off chance a police officer walks in to check if we are playing poker for real money. It has never happened. I can reliably tell you that it will never happen. We don’t have any police officers, and if we did they wouldn’t be bothered about a few grown men playing poker for hard earned money.
