Lottery privatized under Christie falls $136 million short

Two years after New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie privatized much of the state’s lottery operations, a big payoff remains out of sight. Higher costs associated with the private company that Christie hired, Northstar New Jersey, have cut the state’s income for the second straight year, creating a $136 million shortfall in the state’s 2015 budget, according to internal documents obtained by The Associated Press.

Fliers urge dissent on county's casino-blocking lawsuit

Supporters of a stalled casino project in Crawford County are urging residents in neighboring Cherokee County to voice displeasure over a lawsuit they say is costing local governments in both counties nearly $1,000 a day. Cherokee County and Castle Rock Casino filed lawsuits this summer claiming the Kansas Lottery violated state law when it awarded the contract for a state-owned casino in southeast Kansas in July.

Cape Breton lottery grows from $35 to over $800,000

A wildly popular fundraising game that attracted thousands of people to a small Cape Breton town failed to find a big winner Saturday as the “Chase the Ace” jackpot grew to more than $800,000. The game of chance, which involves finding the ace of spades in a deck of playing cards, saw its jackpot grow from $35 last October to $884,147.76 on Saturday.
