Atlantic City’s mayor has accused the state government of acting like a “fascist dictatorship” in its efforts to lift the city out of its financial hole.

On Monday, AC mayor Don Guardian took a shot at the fiscal rescue plan proposed by the New Jersey legislature and supported by Gov. Chris “il Duce” Christie (pictured), which is aimed at keeping the troubled seaside gambling hub from having to declare bankruptcy.

AC is set to run out of money as soon as April, assuming the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa continues to withhold its property tax payments. The state proposed measures that would give the state-appointed Local Finance Board broad powers over AC’s finances and Guardian appeared to be on board with the plan until he dropped the ‘F’ bomb at a press conference on Monday.

Guardian said he’d been promised the state and city would forge a partnership to dig AC out of its fiscal hole. But the plan proposed by the state – including privatizing city assets like the municipal water supply, tearing up union contracts and letting the county handle policing – was, In Guardian’s eyes, “far from a partnership; it was absolutely a fascist dictatorship.”

California’s new online poker bill has received the blessing of the usual suspects, while those who have traditionally stood opposed have yet to indicate any willingness to retreat from their line in the sand.

On Friday, Assemblymen Adam Gray and Reggie Jones-Sawyer filed a draft of AB 2863, the state’s latest attempt to authorize legal online poker play. The bill is largely similar to a revised draft of Gray’s AB 431 bill that was filed last month, although some of that draft’s fiscal specifics have been expunged.

The revised AB 431 specified a tax rate of 15% of gross gambling revenue and initial license fees of $15m, which would serve as a deposit from which monthly tax revenue would be deducted. Both these figures have been removed from AB 2863, likely due to pushback from stakeholders, who insisted that AB 431’s economics didn’t leave room for profits.

The most significant new detail of the revised AB 431’s has remained, i.e. the promise to funnel up to $60m per year of the state’s share of online poker revenue to state racetracks, on the condition that the tracks give up the right to join tribal casinos and state cardrooms in offering online poker.

The CEO of leading Macau casino junket operator Jimei International Entertainment Group has resigned his executive and board positions.

In a filing with the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, Jimei said ‘Kennis’ Wong Kwok Leung had stepped down from his CEO role effective Monday. Wong also resigned from his seat on the company’s board, although he will remain a director of several unnamed Jimei subsidiaries.

Jimei said Wong had left due to his “other business engagements” and that the company doesn’t intend to appoint an interim replacement. Existing management will handle the chief executive responsibilities until a permanent replacement can be identified.
