Macau’s latest internal theft scandal involves ‘Broken Tooth’ Koi’s VIP room

The L’Arc Macau casino has been rocked by another VIP room internal theft, the second such case at the property in as many months.

On Thursday, Hong Kong media outlet Economic Journal reported that Macau Judiciary Police had received a report regarding the internal theft of around HKD 1m (US $129k) from a VIP room at L’Arc casino, which operates under an SJM Holdings license.

The amount of the theft pales in comparison to the HKD 100m that went missing from a junket operation working out of L’Arc early in January. Regardless, news of the theft will likely put more strain on junkets’ ability to attract investor capital, and calls for stricter regulatory oversight of the junket industry will grow louder.

This most recent case is all the more notable given that the theft reportedly occurred at a VIP room controlled by Wan Kuok Koi (pictured) aka Broken Tooth, the former leader of the notorious 14k Triad. Wan was released from prison in December 2012 after serving a 14-year sentence for illegal gambling, loansharking and criminal association.

FantasyHub “temporarily” suspends operations; VividSports4Money launches

Daily fantasy sports operator FantasyHub has “temporarily suspended operations,” leaving its customers unclear of the fate of their account balances.

This week, a thread opened on the RotoGrinders forum in which a player reported difficulty in getting movement on his FantasyHub withdrawal request. Other players soon chimed in, citing similar problems with the Austin, Texas-based site that launched in 2014.

On Friday, FantasyHub’s site ceased all functionality, instead displaying a banner declaring that its owners were conducting “discussions with a strategic 3rd party regarding the future of FantasyHub and its players.” An email sent to FantasyHub players said the company couldn’t divulge any further details of these discussions “due to advice from counsel.”

The closure marks the second DFS site to shut down in as many months, following FantasyUp’s mid-January implosion. FantasyUp was subsequently bailed out by the iTEAM Network, which pledged to honor FantasyUp’s financial obligations to its players.

Bwin.party’s New Jersey future uncertain after Borgata expands GAN deal

Online gaming technology provider GAN has expanded its free-play online casino deal with Atlantic City’s market-leading Borgata property to include a potential real-money online offering.

Shortly before Christmas, GAN (formerly GameAccount Network) inked a deal to provide its Simulated Gaming free-play product to the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa. On Friday, GAN announced that the parties had expanded their relationship to include GAN’s real-money online Regulated Gaming product “in the event certain conditions are met.”

GAN, which already provides real-money gambling technology to Betfair’s New Jersey online casino, says the real-money Borgata deal is dependent on New Jersey’s Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) granting its regulatory approval as well as the Borgata “providing GAN with permission to commence operations.”

GAN and the Borgata are forging ahead with plans to launch the Simulated Gaming product in H1 2016 but no timeline was offered for real-money operations.

BetVictor join Authorized Betting Partner scheme; Ladbrokes exit Cheltenham

Online betting operator BetVictor has become the fourth online-only bookmaker to sign on with UK racing’s Authorized Betting Partner (ABP) scheme.

On Friday, BetVictor announced that it had inked a three-year deal to ante up a portion of its online revenue derived from UK racing events to UK racing bodies, joining 32Red, Bet365 and Betfair as the only other online bookies that have so far earned the ABP designation.

Terms of the BetVictor deal weren’t disclosed, but the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) and the major racecourses supporting the ABP scheme have stated that operators would need to pay 7.5% of their online racing revenue.

BetVictor CEO Andreas Meinrad justified the deal by saying his company felt “we would be doing our customers a disservice by not getting behind this initiative.” BHA CEO Nick Rust expressed delight that BetVictor “recognize the benefits” of ABP membership and said the BHA looked forward to seeing BetVictor’s name prominently displayed at UK tracks.
